Pierce: The Legacy Grows
#1
Pierce has been running teasers for a new chassis, presumably to be debuted at FDIC. All it says is "Timeless Reliability. The Legacy Grows"

I wonder what market the new chassis will be aimed towards, or what model it will replace?

I was told about a month and a half ago what it is, but was also told it wasn't public yet. On the flip side of things, a department that recently spec'd a new piece has already been told how it'll look, and they were right in telling me, described it down to a T. So you may be able to ask your local rep. but at the risk of getting someone fired, I'll let Pierce have their moment, just as they did with the Dash CF, and build up a bunch of hype before FDIC.

I laid my eyes on it this week, but I'm sworn to secrecy.  It will be a popular choice for a lot of fire departments.

If it's truly like it's been described to me, and I have absolutely 0 reason to think otherwise, it'll actually detract me away from it!

OK, for some reason I think it is going to be a stainless steel cab, to compete with Ferrara, Seagrave, and KME.

Hopefully with the several disasters (IMO) of the current cab and chassis line they will bring in something that will bring back customers who like more traditional looking and set up rigs. Sorry but the current line up is a joke except the Saber but it has it's faults too.

Doc, I know your dislike for the Velocity and Impel, how about the XT?

Terrible interior layout very chopped up IMO. Hump in the rear floor for the pto hell did they get that from E\-One. We had a chance to get the Tower on an Arrow XT when that cab was in development and we went to Appleton and checked it out before it was unveiled and we picked it apart and the La. Guys hated us (Remember that cab was developed for La. City). I will say with the sales jump that it received after the Virtuosity and Impulse came out they did make some changes to the Arrow such as multiplexing and single AC condensers but I could never understand why not just bring back the Dash interior in it.

Also I think it's funny how Pierce is going to offer a "Tough Interior" without charging customers thousands of dollars not to put vinyl and plastic in the cab. Hell they tried to charge us a ton of money for a Line-Xed interior and door panels but lucky for us DC had some Dashs on the blue floor inspecting them which the project manager said their isn't an up charge on Line--X it's just a pain to get them to Green Bay to get it done. Well needless to say we were credited a ton of money back on the Tower and future pumpers with Line-Xed interiors.

Since I've not been sworn to any secrecy, it sounds to me like an improved version of an existing "model." Maybe, a roomier and more thought out Arrow XT?

From what I gather it's a marriage between the Dash CF and the Arrow-XT.......... Think exterior / cab shell of a CF cab but with a traditional cooling system for the engine and typical engine ahead position......

There is certain new design features for this introduction that Pierce "borrowed" from other manufacturers.... but you can be sure the spin doctors at crystal palace will make everybody believe that they (Pierce) thought of it first bringing it to the fire service....

Mechanical engineers build weapons, whereas civil engineers build targets.

Interesting article about a "sneak peak" given to magazine editors regarding the new chassis:

Man, I would love to know when the "customer input" seminars are, I've got to get in on one of those, because I know not one of us at my department has been asked, and I assure you we have an entire list.

My guess is they're threatened by Rosenbauer's new cab.  Love it or hate, they're selling well, and a number of customers that would have normally been Pierce buyers are making the jump...

The only thing uglier than a Pierce is a rosey

I am not sure about the Rosenbauer chassis. The two I saw were not that impressive. Didn't like the interior at all.

A few things I don't care for of the new trucks being made; both by Pierce (Dash CF) and Rosenbauer (Commander) are the 1 piece windshields, it's a truck, not a car, the low stance to the ground, and in Rosenbauer's case, that hideous grille, and headlight line that in now way actually compliments the grille lines, on top of the ridiculous roof that doesn't allow much for having lights beyond the primary bar (yes, I know you can use smaller bars, but they won't sit even.)

But hey, that's just me Thumbsup it can be the most user friendly truck out there, it leaves a lot to be desired physically. In fairness, I can do that with about any manufacturer- Spartan, KME, Ferrara

I Think I called that one pretty close, if I say so myself!

Pierce had a 20 minute drum roll at FDIC yesterday by the Indiana Pacers drum line prior to the introduction of the new cab which was under black tarps. All the while the giant screen in the Lucas Oil Stadium had a countdown in minutes, seconds and hundredths of second until the 1pm unveiling. I did not look at it up close, too crowded.

It is better looking than the ugly twins but with the upgrades in horsepower  it is going to be selling against the Arrow XT which doesn't make sense to me. I don't know if it will be available with tandem rear axles or not so that might put a limit its applications. Just my penny's worth...
