Loudoun County,Va.
The sister to the newer Tanker 612 at Lovettsville is Tanker 626.  A few posts back there were some questions/comments about Station 26 which will be the new Loudoun Heights station.

Neersville is Station 16 and originally started out as a volunteer department in Loudoun County.  Long story short, with a small community, the county took over operations of Station 16.  A new county station is being built, located not far down the road from the current Station 16.  Until that new station is completed and occupied, apparatus will continue to run out of the current Station 16 with a "16" designation (Engine 616, Tanker 616, Ambulance 616, Brush 616, etc.).  Once the new station is open, units will change over to the "26" designation.  My understanding is that out of respect for the volunteers at Station 16, the decision was made to add 26 and not replace the 16 designation.

In anticipation of Station 26 opening, the county received Tanker 626 along with Tanker 612.  Tanker 626 is a 2012 Mack Granite/2013 Pierce 1500/3000 with job number 25932-02.  When I photographed this tanker last fall, it was not in service nor were there plans to place it into service until the new Station 26 opens this year.

The new Tanker 626 (Mack Granite/Pierce) will be replacing the current Tanker 616 which is a 2000 Freightliner 112/S&S equipped with a 750/3000.  Serial number 3555.

My understanding is that this tanker will be sold.

Also at Fire Station 16 in Neersville.....

The staff "dressed up" a bit Engine 616 with new wheel covers and some added equipment.

And finally at FS 16 Neersville is Brush 616, a 1994 Ford F350 4x4 equipped with a Micro Pumper skid 310/200.  The skid unit was purchased from the Sharpsburg, Maryland VFD in 2007.

Loudoun County will be ordering a new brush truck for Fire Station 26 (Loudoun Heights) and this truck will probably be sold.

The Sterling Volunteer Fire and Volunteer Rescue, in conjunction with Loudoun County, opened the Kincora Safety Center on November 9, 2013.  Just like Sterling's other two stations (11/15 and 18/25) where the fire and rescue are independent however operate out of the same facilities, the new Kincora Station will house fire units (designation of "24") and rescue squad units (designation of "35").

As was mentioned, Engine 624 moved from Station 18 fire to become the "new" Engine 624.  It is a 2004 Pierce Lance  1500/1250 with job number 14671.  While at FS 18 this Pierce ran as Engine 18 and Tanker 618.

As a side note, Sterling Fire has two new 2014 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal 1500/750/20 due to be delivered late summer of this year.  I suspect there will be a variety of changes to Sterling engine assignments once the two new Smeal's are placed into service.

Also at FS 24 is Quint 624, a 2000 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal  75'  1500/500 with serial number 7211.  Prior to Station 24 opening, this ran as Quint 611.

Sterling Fire owned two identical 2000 Spartan/Smeal  75'  1500/500.  Their other quint, Quint 618, was sold in 2007 to the Carter FD of Dale, Indiana where I understand it is the first due ladder at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana.  As reference, Sterling also operates a 2008 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal 105'rm  2000/500 as their current Quint 618.

As mentioned, the Kincora Safety Center houses both Sterling Fire (24) and Sterling Rescue (35).

On the Rescue Squad side of things, Sterling Rescue transferred their newer Medical Support Unit 615 to Station 35.  It is a 2004 Ford E350/Complete Truck Bodies that was converted into a medical support unit by Keplinger Repair in Winchester, Virginia as well as the Sterling volunteers.  The Ford was purchased from a used car dealer and converted into a medical support truck where it holds supplies for 75 patients.  It has a 15' box and lift gate.  Keplinger Repair added warning lights, siren, scene lights, interior lighting, body work, painting, lettering, interior shelving/compartments, and 6kw generator.

This truck replaced a 1997 trailer that was used by Sterling Rescue.

Last one from Sterling......

This Pierce is privately owned and was returned to the Sterling graphics in 2013.

Sterling Volunteer Fire purchased a 1984 and 1985 Pierce Arrow.  After service in Sterling, both were donated to the Loudoun County Training Center in Leesburg and then ultimately sold when the county purchased two new Pierce engines assigned to the Training Center.

This is a 1985 Pierce Arrow that was rehabbed in 1989 by Pierce to include a four door enclosure.  It returned back to Pierce in 2000 for accident damage repair.  Job number E2746.

It originally started as Sterling Wagon 11.  It then became Training Engine 98 at the Loudoun County Training Center.  It was sold to a dealer in Virginia where it was used as loaner engine until purchased privately.  In 2013, it was re-lettered back to Sterling Fire.

This photograph was taken back in the fall of last year.

A couple more to round out this series of updates.

Leesburg Truck 601 was also dressed up a bit - mainly the wheel covers removed and a Roto-Ray warning light added.  In my opinion, this one looks sharp!

This truck has been special (and is owned by a firepics member).

At one time Ashburn ran a 1974 Dodge Power Wagon 300/Stinebaugh & Sons 500/300.  It was sold to Bergton, Virginia in Rockingham County many years ago and recently acquired by the owner whose father and grandfather was instrumental in the ordering and delivery of this truck.  It is now back to the Ashburn lettering and looking much like it did while in service in Ashburn.  This photograph was taken at the Apple Blossom fireman's parade in Winchester last year.

In an interesting development, Ashburn just sold their old Wagon 6 (or Engine 606C) to Bergton, Virginia.  Just like the 1974 Dodge, this 2001 Spartan Gladiator/2002 Smeal 1500/600/20/20 engine also had some unique family connections with the delivery of the Smeal to Ashburn - from the same family that ordered and now has the 1974 Dodge.  Ashburn and Bergton have a strong connection.

Once the Smeal is lettered for Bergton, I will post photographs.

Lastly, some news from Ashburn:

The 1980 Hahn engine is being completely rebuilt and refurbished and should be done around the Summer of this year.  It will continue as the departments ceremonial truck.

Ashburn has on order two 2014 Ferrara Inferno's  1500/500/20.  They will be painted in black over yellow.
