Mike, if Loudoun still uses the "Wagon" designator, why can't the other NOVA COG departments go back to using that term instead of the stupid sounding "Bravo" designator?

I drove through Philomont yesterday & old Brush 8 was outside next to the LCFR "Wildland" trailer that is stationed there. No for sale sign on her yet. My understanding it will be sold. Very unusual brush truck since you do not see many built by 4-Guys. In addition, the seats in the rear bed are unique.
The designation "Wagon" being used in Loudoun County?
Loudoun County currently only partically follows COG when it comes to vehicle designations. For example, a second Ambulance out of the same Station in Fairfax or Prince William would have a "B" after the number (A-411B). Here it was decided to use a numbering system. An example would be at Station 15 (Sterling Rescue), the Ambulances are numbered - A-615-1, A-615-2, A-615-3, etc...
So with the Wagon designation, Loudoun Companies are as of now still allowed to use it. Again where most call their second out Engine the "B" bravo Engine, Loudoun can still have a Engine, Wagon, and Rescue Engine all in the same house. As of right now, there are only six (6) Engine's in Loudoun with the Wagon designation. They are Wagon 603 (Middleburg), Wagon 605 (Hamilton), Wagon 606 (Ashburn), Wagon 608 (Philomont), Wagon 611 (Sterling), and Wagon 612 (Lovettsville), Some of the Loudoun Volunteer Companes have switch, like Leesburg. Wagon 601 is now Engine 620 (out of Station 20).

That designation is dependent on the staffing level of the unit for that particular shift. There are three (3) levels in Loudoun; Ambulance, Trauma and Medic. As you can probably figure out, the Trauma level can not do everything that a Medic (or Paramedic) can do, but can do more than just an EMT.
It gets confusing sometimes. You could realistically here Ambulance 625-1, Trauma 625-1, and Medic 625-1 all in the same day depending on the level of training of the AIC (aide in charge). In other words, you could have a Ambulance staffed until a higher trained AIC comes into the Station. Then the designation changes to that level.

Engine 619 at the Dulles South Safety Center has this newer 2012 Pierce Arrow XT 1500/750/50 with a job number of 25831.
"The Big Top" as written in small letting on the front bumper is in reference to station 19's first station, which was a large tent. That tent is now at the Training Academy and is used to house some of the Training Center apparatus.
This was a surprise find as I was not sure what the status
of this ALF was in Loudoun County.
This is old Engine 99 from the training center. I believe it was the first engine purchased
for training center use.
It is a 1981 ALF 1250/500 with ALF s/n CE-7130. It originally served as FDNY Engine 250 and then later as a spare. Eventually, it was sold to JC Moore who rehabbed the ALF which included a 750 gallon water tank.
JC Moore sold the ALF to Loudoun County, where it was primarily used as a training center engine. I did, however, see it in the field on several occasions playing the reserve role at several stations.
In 2006, after service at the training center, it was donated to the Monroe Technology Center School in Leesburg, where they have/had
a firefighter/EMS school for high school students.
Several years ago, I saw it sitting out back at Monroe looking pretty “rough”. It was obviouslyout of service.
Several weeks ago I went by the company that is doing the maintenance work for many of Loudoun’s fire and rescue apparatus and this was
sitting outside. I understand it has been acquired by the career side and will be used as a ceremonial engine.
I would appreciate any other information from folks on the career side that has information regarding this ALF. If anyone has a photo of it while FDNY E-250,
I would greatly appreciate seeing that. Niceto see it still around.

Station 24 opened in November of last year. They are running a 2004 Pierce Lance Pumper that was originally E618, a 2000 Spartan/Smeal 75' Quint that was originally Q611 and a Battalion Chief as well. A Mack Granite/Pierce tanker was delivered in September of last year marked for 26 but I'm not positive if the station has opened yet.
It's complicated, but in a nutshell, the Neersville VFD (Company 16) was disbanded by the county in 2013. Rather than re-use the 16 number, the county decided that the new station, Loudoun Heights, would carry Company 26. My sources say that the current Tanker 616 will be sold, and a new tanker has already been delivered for 626. The new station should be opening sometime this spring...

It has been awhile since I have added some Loudoun County updates.
Back in the fall, Lovettsville Station 12 placed into service their new Tanker 612, a county purchased 2012 Mack Granite/2013 Pierce 1500/3000 with job number 25932-01. A second tanker was also received by the county for Tanker 626 (more on that in a few posts).
Here is what the Mack Granite new Tanker 612 replaced - a 2005 International 7600/Pierce 1500/3000 with job number 17249.
This was the county's first "large" tanker when the department began an aggressive process of upgrading tanker trucks, especially in the west end of the county which is more rural. When this tanker was delivered, it was originally Tanker 5 in Hamilton. When Hamilton received a new 2009 International 7600/Pierce 1500/3000, the 2005 model became a county reserve. From there is was re-assigned to Tanker 612 in Lovettsville. Last fall, it went back to reserve status and has the designation of Tanker 680.
