I was driving around Waynesville yesterday looking for something to do, when I had one of those "FIRE TRUCK!!!!!" moments. I happened upon this truck sitting at the local Republican party headquarters advertising for a politician. He was a retired firefighter from Charlotte, NC and is now a collector of antique fire apparatus. He also has a Ford C/Howe that formerly served Snow Hill, NC which he is repairing right now. Hope to get pics of it sometime soon too.

Gettysburg PA, 1968 Ford former rescue serving out its years as a lime hauler. It originally had a 1953 Sharpsville rescue body mounted from an older chassis. The rescue body was long ago scrapped.

On the door "Gettysburg Fire Dept" and "Organized 1808" can still be read.

A faded Civil Defense logo can be seen on the cowl.

Found this 1973 IHC/ Maxim 1000/1000 this past weekend in New Hampshire. It's located in a parking lot for a fireworks store just north of the intersection of rt 16 and rt 25 in West Ossipee. It's not in horrible shape altho she is rusting a bit. formerly Tamworth E-4, she also had impressions of some graphics that started "Isle of....".

I couldn't find a Maxim plate, just one for IH. oh yeah....she's for sale. asking price is $4700.

I believe it came from Isle La Motte over in VT, I believe it was in service in VT within past 10 or so years so I don't think Tamworth had it for long, and I believe its been oos from tamworth a couple years now.

I did find it on Isle LaMotte's website. www.firenews.com shows it in both departments as past apparatus.

She's been sitting there at the fireworks shop for at least the last 4 years that I know of. Looks like in the exact same spot too, in the far right of the parking lot.

I was on a road trip last week and happened across these rigs. They're parked along I-40 about 5 miles west of Amarillo, Texas. I stopped on the way back and talked to the owner. He takes old snorkels, removes the booms, remounts them on 6x6 (or similar) chassis and uses them to install high-tension power lines.



1970 Ford C/Pierce Quint. It has a 1000gpm pump, not sure of the tank size (he doesn't care) and it looks like it's probably a 65' boom.



The Pierce S/N is 7098-C and it was manufactured in January, 1970. The owner didn't know where it came from, and it's marked "Carlisle Fire Rescue".



Any history on this rig would be great to have.

Next was this gem - The owner bought this sight-unseen and it "wasn't what he thought it was." I assume he means that he didn't know it was an Aero-Chief but probably thought it was a Snorkel-brand unit. So, he's not going to use it.



I'm mad at myself because about 2 hours down the road I realized I should have offered to buy the ALF plates off the cab, since it looks like it might just sit there, rusting away..., and that other equipment has already been stripped.



Anyway - The unit is labelled as Portsmouth Ladder 2 and comparing the seal on the side of the boom, I think it was Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

This one has already had the boom and bodywork stripped and remounted on a 6x6 chassis (It wasn't there so I couldn't shoot it).



1988 Simon-Duplex/Grumman quint

1500 / ? / 85'

There's a data plate on it that says it was a model A-T-O 85', so do you suppose ALF supplied the boom to Grumman?

Grumman S/N 18076



Unknown on the origin of this unit. Anyone have it on a list or recognize it? I'd love to see a photo when it was original.
