Andy,

I remember this truck 35+ years ago. I had two uncles and six cousins who were Dansville firefighters who worked off this truck for many years. Both uncles and three of my cousins are still with Dansville Fire Department.

I hadn't seen this truck in several years, but I was surprised that it was still in good shape knowing the effects of salt and rust in upstate New York. I still can't believe that they ran this truck for 40 years.

That's awesome to hear, thanks for replying. I bought it in '08 and did the deal with Walt (can't think of his last name at the moment) and the village council. The rust on the underside is somewhat bad. I didn't realize it, but when I got back from NY with it I noticed the front springs where broke through, so I had to have custom springs built for it. I am really trying to keep it in check though. I am getting ready to repair the spots on each side of the cab behind the wheel well, thank God Young built these things like tanks.

Keep checking back for more updates, and let your family know it's in good hands. I send Walt photos every now and again.

I'm surprised the truck was that good. The village of Dansville hasn't had a great record when it comes to replacing fire equipment, so for them to sell the Young I figured that it had to have been pretty bad.

With you owning the Young, I think the old truck in the fleet now is the Mack. The Mack was bought around '75 and I believe my uncle (my mom's brother) was on the committee that bought that truck.

Sparta Center is a smaller department up on the hill on the northeast side of Dansville. When I was a kid my father's uncle was the Fire Chief up there, and I don't think their oldest piece is anywhere near as old as what Dansville is running. Sparta Center is a whole lot smaller and a whole lot poorer than Dansville, but Dansville has never had fire equipment high on their list of priorities. Dansville is a fairly large village that runs a lot of calls.

Just out of curiosity, how many miles are on the Young??

Andy do you still have a Ward/Young from Lancaster, N.Y. as well?

No, I sold it a few months after I bought the Crusader. It was purchased by a film company out of Philly as a prop for movies. I haven't heard anything about it since.
