Charlie's cross cuntry trip is a great story but I won't attempt to repeat it here primarly because I may leave out some of the facts. But there is a plaque on the side of the Eng. giving the dates of the trip and it included a run in with the authoirtes in New Mexico. Charlie told me it was the fastest coast to coast {at that time} by an engine, even with the New Mexico delay.

This is my "baby" [Crown F1627, ex-Live Oak/Santa Cruz County] now residing up in Northern, NJ. We DID drive it across country from Paradise, CA to Sparta, NJ back in June '06. It drove like a champ, for being 36 years old. We made the trip in about 4 1/2 days, without anything unique happening, but everyone looks at you, which is part of the fun

Beacon, CT sold their mid-mount ladder a couple years ago. I found out when I heard it was for sale, and inquired. However, I was a year or so too late, and the information posted hadn't been updated.

Marc, that Crown is just crying to come down to Florida for a visit don't you think. Warm weather, near the beaches, etc. etc. etc., what'ya say

I have some but blocked by a piller (Indoors shot) I will post when I have time to get it out and the why I sent the topic TTT. The pics were taken about a year ago.

In Jan 06 I had the chance to visit with the Blacks as a guest and had a wonderful time. I am going to post some pics and some detail shots I took. First off is the plaque that is posted on the rig which reads: COVINA CROWN This Crown hold the record for the fastest ocean to ocean crossing of the United States by a motorized Fire Apparatus. The record of 86 hours was set in 1990 by Charles Black and Lane Black of the Chesapeake Fire Museum running from Santa Monica Pier to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel The crew and apparatus experienced a 100 degree change in temperature during the trip. At no time was a chase vehicle used in setting this record.
