[quote name='Fireman5230' post='58245' date='Dec 12 2006, 22:32 ']Rode this rig a lot back in 91-92. One night as I walked in to the firehouse the brothers had the mini ram for the Hurst tool hooked up and was pushing the bumper out. Seems they tagged a car while responding. All in all minor damage, just neat to watch the FIREHOUSE BODY SHOP at work!
The sad part is I can count 2 members that rode this rig to their last calls that I knew. Also the Company Captain was badly burned in a steam explosion. (This story was used for the scene in LADDER 49. The movie was really going to be based on an FDNY unit but with 9-11 and the City they kind of backed off and went with BCFD)

In the movie "Brothers in Battle", there's a scene where they're interviewing the brothers who just received medals at Medal Day 1990. They interview FF Mike Milner from Rescue 4, standing next to him is Lt. Tommy Williams.
Shortly after FF Louis Valentino R2 was killed LOD in '96, there was an article about him in one of the NY papers ( I believe the NY Times). They had a pic of Louis suiting up in his wet suit, and talking to FF Pete McLaughlin R4 at the same time.......Eerie

Go to ebay and do a search on "1947 GMC Firetruck". It should be the only item that comes up. Sorry, i still haven't figured out how to post links. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

BTW, nice find. Somewhere I have a B/W shot of this working at a multi-alarm job in downtown Haverhill in 1988/89. It was reserve then and stayed there for days.
Same junkyard, Coopersburg, Pa. This was hard to figure out. Apparently an old Mack/Maxim Tiller. Did have a plate that said it was refurbed at some point by Hammerly. This is the best shot I could get at the time. You used to be able to see this piece from 309 as you drove by, but it has either been moved or is no longer there.

Another Cooperburg, Pa. shot. This poor guy suffered a devistating undercarriage fire- note the heavy smoke stains/heat damage around the wheel wells. The Engine is burned up, along with the entire undercarriage from the motor mounts all the way back to the tandems.
Not a firetruck, but of interest to any of you FWD/Oshkosh/Walter Buffs out there.......An older Oshkosh Plow. Was converted at some point with a Cummins.
The Mack/Maxim tiller is an ex Anne Arundel Co. Maryland rig. Originally purchased for Station 5, but was never staffed. After a few years it was reassigned to Station 31 where it remainded until it was moved to the reserve fleet as Truck 51.
Cruised past the junkyard on 309 today (as I do everyday) so sometimes I pay attention, sometimes I dont. But today, it appeared as if Rescue 4 may be missing?????????????
