Yes I took a photo of North Shore WI pumper at the Pierce Factory in 2010 of that exact hose bed. It was fantastic. The Fire Shop really likes the PUC for repairs, the committee really wanted standard style engines. It was a compromise and has worked decent. The guys would like to see the overall body height lower. With the last four engines purchased the two typhoons and two puc's they only carry electric fans and a hydraulic generator with cord reel. This was always a standard for OFD pumpers for as long as I can remember. They have removed jaws, saws, and gas fans that appeared the late 1990's and returned them to the Quints, Truck, and Rescue. It is fantastic having basic pumpers again.

I, too, like the hose bed shots...do you have any idea what the height from the ground is for the rear hose-bed? Also, what is the overall length of the Olathe pumper?

Garnett, Kansas Fire Department is fully volunteer and responds only to fire related alarms. They operate an entire fleet of ex Olathe, Kansas Fire Department apparatus. Five years ago they were still operating their original 1953 American LaFrance 700 series as a front line engine.

Manhattan operates three quints as Engine Companies E1,2,4, two engines E3,5, one Batt Chief, and one tower ladder L1. When asked Manhattan Firemen refer to the quints as a supplemental aerial ladder and they say its an Engine. The newest Engine on order is a straight Engine. Fire House five opens this month.

Visited the outstanding brothers at the City of Iola, Kansas Fire Department. Iola population 5,700 is two hours south of Kansas City on US 169. They are fully career from one fire house and have five firemen on duty each shift. They provide fire protection for the City of Iola and are contracted to provide fire protection only to Allen County Rural Fire District Two. They are the sole Heavy Rescue service provider for all of Allen County and maintain the county rescue unit. They also provide ambulance transport service within the City of Iola. Allen County EMS provides ambulance service to the county outside the city limits.





The pride of the department is their fully original ALF 700 series. The ALF was front line 1952, entered reserve in 1976, and was removed from reserve service in 1989. It has been maintained by the department since for parades and special events.

Yes it was placed into service last week. I'm going to try and get better photos of it soon. WichitaFire.org has been updated. This also means WFD has 0 lime green apparatus now!
