Who cares they are just wheels they don't make it put a fire out quicker, they dont make the ladder move faster. Its just cosmetic, we just care about functionability which these new ferreras aren't too good at but its not a fashion show

129k I agree with you bro I have race aluminum wheels on my lightning for the strip for the less weight. Most people think of it as cosmetic not being a functional part of the rig having aluminum wheels

If you look at over the road trucks you will see on most newer rigs have aluminum wheels on the tractor and trailer. weight of 18 aluminum wheels vers steel, better tire life from reduced heat build up, steel wheels tend to rust from the inside. in a long run aluminum is cost beneficial.
Many people don't think about this, but upfront you have to pay for the paint on the wheels, and every few years they need to be repainted as well if they rust. That being said, I know some departments that do NOT want aluminum wheels because at least in canada where we have lots of salt for snow they find that the steel bolt and aluminum wheel corrode to the point they needed crow bars to get the wheel off. They haven't had that with theel wheels. Personally I like the steel wheels...fire trucks are red and with unpainted roll-up doors most people have little red left on the fire trucks so that little bit extra is nice.

I was simply observing the back and forth from steel wheels and aluminum wheels, both with the last batch of replacement rigs to the current replacements. It makes me curious in any situation to who pays the attention that they say we want steel wheels on these but aluminum on these. I see your point that they're "just wheels" but really? Why can't we discuss them? Again, I sincerely apologize, next time I won't mention it... Trav!

I know they take care of HazMat incidents...but specifically, what does HazMat do and/or respond to? Do they fight fire as well? Are they well received by the other companies? Not being critical at all...just was always curious. In fact, I prefer a good HazMat call over an EMS incident any day...

I personally couldnt believe the size of that one on the grille when I first saw it... I like things to be somewhat proportionate.. but maybe its by design....
