Not sure how new this is but just learned KME has dropped longtime dealer Slagles at least for SC and NC. They have given it to Safe Industries out of the Greenville SC area.

WHOA! Slagle's has been a fixture in the Carolina's for years. The owner is a friend, I'll have to touch base with him over the weekend and see if he's willing to talk about it....

As far as the SC area it was mostly Virgil. I sincerly hate it for them. Good group of folks. Do not know the back story. Virgil was always very nice to talk to at bid openings or shows.
John:
Jack still makes the trade shows and such, but Barry has been running everything for many years. Scott does a lot of the field work with demos and such, and as Neal stated, Virgil handles the "down south" stuff.

Heard a RUMOR the Slagles is looking at EOne. I also did not know they used to be a EOne dealer many moons ago. As stated just a RUMOR cannot confirm.
It appears that Slagles is now the Ferrara dealer for North and South Carolina.
Thanks for the update. I hope they do well with the line. I have always enjoyed speaking with Virgil.
Back in the day, wasnt Slagles a JACO dealer?
I know Slagles made their own slide in units for brush trucks.

To the best of my memory that is correct as far as whom they have been a dealer for over the years.
Theyt always had elaborate literature!
They were also big in used apparatus back in the early 1970's. I have photos of his used fire truck lot I took in 1973, but I can't post them in this thread.
gfd1: I would love to see that
Slagle's annouced today that they'll be the Ferrara dealer for a majority of Virginia, with Winstead's Fire Equipment out of Maryland covering the remainder.

wow sorry to hear that!
I am assuming by now most have heard this but still hard to hear as I know Virgil Slagle and consider him a friend - Slagles is closing it's doors. As a matter of fact Columbia, SC office already closed from what I gather and assests all at VA office.
Neal, thanks for posting this. I had a chance to talk to Barry for a couple of hours on Sunday for a short article for my website, which can be seen here: End of an Era: Slagle's Fire Equipment Announces Closure.
In related news, with Slagle's closure and Winstead's representing Sutphen now, there isn't a dedicated Ferrara dealer in Virginia.
