I believe that there are separate crews for both the truck and the engine.

The current chief likes red. They have just ordered a new Rosenbauer engine which will arrive sometime in 2013.
The first white apparatus arrived in the spring of 1972 when two Mack CF engines arrived. Subsequently, everything except a 1930 Seagrave and a 1951 ALF 700 was painted white.
They do not have an aerial nor have they ever had one. I was told this is the case because of money-an aerial costs too much. They do have the need for one, though.
The closest department with an aerial is Lubbock which is 45 miles away.

Couple of questions for you Texas folks..
Is General Safety a local builder there?
On the apparatus from Spartan I notice that the serial number is always from whomever the other manufacturer on the truck is. Don't see many Spartans out my way so was curious do they put a serial number on there equipment at all?

I believe that Rosenbauer-General Safety apparatus are built in Minnesota. There are no manufacturing facilities in Texas that I am aware of. The Texas Dealer for Rosenbauer is DACO Fire Equipment with offices in Lubbock and Ft. Worth.
I believe that Spartan puts a plate on their cabs and chassis with a number on it. I just try and record the apparatus builder as Spartan makes a lot of cabs and chassis for several different manufacturers.

For 2010 I saw at least 3 different formats: G 3021, 3009 and 138083

From what I have seen, General Safety's serial numbers are 4-digit, such as "2899". I have only found them on the pump panel of
the apparatus. Any other number given as the apparatus serial number is likely some other number that was found on the rig and misidentified by the person collecting the data.

I agree with Eric, I have had a hard time finding the General and Central numbers. Normally I find the General numbers on the pump panel as well. I hardly ever can find numbers on Central. General and Central are part of the big Rosenbaur. It suprises me that they dont have a better system like the other large manfacuters such as Pierce, Eone, Seagrave and Sutphen. I only collect chassie numbers when other bodies are used on Sutphen, Mack, FWD chassie. I don't find a need for the Chassie vin numbers but the job number from the manufacture can help track the rig in the future. Some of the small local builders frustrate me the most. Some have job numbers with no build date others have no job number or build date. I wish all manufactures would use the DOT yellow tag. Hope this helps answer your question.
My most interesting recent find was a Mack R/Grumman. I found the Grumman Job number on a stainless plate with no build date. The yellow DOT sticker was on the door but never stamped with data. Crazy so I had to ball park the date with the Mack data plate chassie build date.

This unit is still in service and is second due at structural fires within the town limits. The Chief (who graciously assisted me by staging the apparatus) says it still runs and pumps very well.
