Baltimore City FD acquired the Brockway rescue from Arbutus VFD and used it as a reserve once their weary Mack MB-Swab was retired. Photo by Brian Mensing.
Went to the Prince George's County Fire Convention parade on Saturday in Accokeek. It was a beautiful sunny morning and that was about all that was beautiful about it! The parade route was about a half-mile long on a small two-lane road and traffic going the opposite direction (where I was trying to stand to take pics) was not stopped. As you can see, the sun was facing the wrong direction. Only seven of PG County's 45 or so companies showed up, including the host company - pathetic!
Anyway, here are a few pics from the parade. The rest are on my Smugmug site.
Accokeek Eng 242 - 1994 Pierce Lance 1500/500/50F.
What a shame, I can remember that this was one of the Parades you had to hit every year, as well as AACO Conv Parade, and Odenton's Carnival Parade. I guess with Gas Prices, and lack of participation we wont see any Parades like those anytime soon.

Having been a parade-goer since I was little, I also loved seeing the rigs at parades.....but also having served as a Chief Officer of a VFD, it's difficult to justify the time "out of service" and the fuel expense taking a rig to a parade, particularly a specialty piece (ladder, heavy rescue, etc), when it "should" be available in the station for emergencies.......it's one of those never-ending sagas.......
Remember, it's their Emergency, not yours ! Arrive Alive !
1 week ago, it was 5 vfds and a gaggle of antiques at Union Bridge's 125th Anniv. Parade! Either gas goes down, or there will be fewer events in the near future.
Rockville's old Squad 3 (originally 30 see on door) was indeed a '55 Mack B, Bruco. This went onto serve Berwyn Heights briefly then the Kent District RS (old PG Rescue 2) before winding up in a yard off Route 28 west of Rockville.
The Foam Wagon, I have as a '61 Dodge, ALF forFoam Wagon 2. There were two of these one I belive an older '58-60 model. Both rotated among stations FW 1 stayed down county (recall seeing at 7 & 18's) while FW 2 was up county often at Station 13 saw also at Station 40. The latter I have as becoming FW12 about 1975 with the old FW sold to Upper Lancaster VFD in Lively Virginia.
Spring's ALFs. What can I say there were a few of these all quite similar and they moved around. Prior to '63 they were painted all red (I have two of these a '60 and a '62 "900"). For the ones painted white over heres what I have...(anyone feel free to add or correct) I believe the image posted is correctly labeled the '63 or '66 running as either E11 or 161.
1) '63 "900" 1000/300 ran as E162, 161, 12. Sold '84.
1) '66 "900" 1000/300 ran as E11, 192, 162 and later as Extrication 15 and E272 at PSTA '90s. This was a diesel. Sold '90s.
1) '69 "900" 1000/300 ran as E191 until after a Mt Aetna rehab it went to E11. Also a diesel. Sold about '95.
2) '73 "1000" 1000/500 ran one as E 11, 163 other as E 161. Both diesels. Sold '96 and '88.
This rig was sold to a fire company up in PA in the early 1970's. I wonder who's Caddy ambo that is behind the squad?

Not knowing where the parade was, it was probably Liberty Road as they ran two ambos back then, (a Travelall and a Caddy) so the Caddy would show up at many of the Baltimore County carnival parades. (Also know as the good old days.) I rode the Lutherville squad many times with my father at the wheel. It had no rear doors and a bench seat, with nothing to hold on to execpt the seat itself and the lockers behind it!
does any one have a photo of Rock Hall MD 1937 Studebaker that you can e-mail me?
Howard Meile has a nice article on Rock Hall FD with a photo of the truck in this months Maryland Dispatch.
I am trying to accumulate photos to represent the trucks listed on my Hale list. (put a face <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/22_yikes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> on the listing)
