I asked the Chief of the La Grande City FD for a contact to the La Grande Rural FD nearby. A half hour later I was greeted from the Chief of La Grande Rural.

Water-Tender 53 is this 1989 Freightliner FLL with bodywork from Western States. It has a 400 gpm-pump and a 3000 gallon-tank. The Freightliner FLL is a rare sight in the US fire service. In Canada it was quite popular.

This had to have been one of the last of the Spartan-cabbed "Commanders" delivered before the introduction of the new Rosenbauer Commander in Febraury 2012.

From La Grande I went back towards Columbia River Valley. I did a short stop in Hermiston/OR. Brush 1454 is this 1999 International 4800 4x4 with bodywork from General, 250 gpm/ 500 water. Originally the tractor was bought by the Federal Government to tow a huge decontamination-trailer for protecting the nearby Umatilla Army Depot. As the truck was never used, General rebuilt it into a brush-truck. The truck can still be used for towing the trailer, if needed.
