Commerial Fire in a vacant restaurant, Sun City, AZ, 1-8-13
#1
Here's some proof that there are actually occasional structure fires west of the Mississippi ( <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />).

Sun City Fire got dispatched to a report of fire in a former Furr's Cafeteria in the 10400 block of Northwest Grand Ave. The building is vacant, but is apparently undergoing renovation into a (yet another) Chinese buffet, in order to satisfy the hordes of "winter visitors" looking for cheap Chinese food (sorry, political comment there).

The alarm came in at about 5:40pm, initially as a 3 & 1 assignment. First due Engine 133 reported smoke showing, so Alarm upgraded the response to a full first alarm structure assignment. After that, it went to a working fire, then finally to a commercial structure fire. Most dispatched units got on scene, but several were released shortly thereafter. The best I could determine it was confined to the kitchen area.

I got on scene right behind the 3rd in ladder, about 10 minutes into the incident. By the time I got there, active fire was out and just a little smoke was lingering. So, I got some available light photos as it was dusk, so I thought I'd share what I have.

I'm guessing at this, but here is what I think the dispatching order was:

3 & 1 assignment: E133 (Sun City), E132 (Sun City), E194 (Peoria), L191 (Peoria), Battalion 131 (Sun City)

1st Alarm Structure: E191 (Peoria), E131 (Sun City), E193 (Peoria), LT131 (Sun City), Deputy 191 (Peoria), West Deputy, Southwest Ambulance 132,

Working fire: E122 (El Mirage), L157 (Glendale - cleared shortly after arriving on scene), Battalion 152 (Glendale), Battalion 192 (Peoria), North Deputy (cancelled in route), Brush 121 (El Mirage - runs as a 2 man first responder unit), CV30 (Phoenix Command Van - cancelled in route?), Rehab 2 (Phoenix - cancelled in route?), CR301 (Surprise - Crisis response), Utility 159 (Glendale), Rural/Metro Ambulance 50 (cancelled in route?)

Coming in on the C side - Engine 132 on the plug with 4", Utility 159 looking for a place to setup.

Ladder 191 - No water to the ladder though, I assume they were just checking for extension.

Here are a couple more I didn't get the chance to post last night:

LT131, first due ladder - I haven't seen Sun City's actual ladder lately (1996 Pierce 100' tower quint), so I wonder if they got rid of it?

This one is almost too dark, but here is a quick look at command and staging on the A/B corner.

From L-R are Engine 194 (Peoria), Maricopa County Sheriff (Crown Vic & Expedition), Sun City Battalion 131's Dodge 3500, more MCSO, Deputy 191 with Engine 193 behind.
