Ladder 1 arrived to fing heavy fire and smoke showing from a 3sty 6 unit occupied apartment house and called a working fire and waited for Engine 3 to arrive as Engine 1 (their district) because the 1's were on a medical run. They had heavy fire on the entire A side running to the eaves. The fire made it's way into the flat roof cockloft and ran to the front to back. The building was a mill era New England style 3 deckah with balloon framed walls. A quick attack knocked the exterior fire down and then they moved in to get the rest. The companies on the 3rd floor opened up room by room to attack the fire in the flat top attic space. This fire was attacked from the inside with only a few minutes of exterior big line attack on the soffits.
These men kicked the fire's ass in a true aggressive attack!!
