3rd Alarm Strip Mall 1/4/2013, Castle Rock CO
#1
At 21:05 Douglas County Dispatched alerted Castle Rock Firefighters to a commercial structure fire at 725 North Wilcox Street in Downtown Castle Rock. Engine 151 was returning from a medical assist and marked on scene just seconds later with heavy smoke showing from the middle unit of a 50x100 strip mall and struck a 2nd Alarm. The Officer & Engineer pulled a 2 1/2 and forced entry while the engineer hand-jacked 100' of LDH to the plug. Engine 153 laid in a second 5 inch supply and backed up 151 with an additional 2 1/2 inch line. Engine 154 took the charlie side, laid 700' of LDH and advanced a 3rd 2 1/2 while Quint 155 went to the roof.

As I arrived and took this shot 2 attack teams were inside with high heat, black smoke to the floor and unable to find the fire. A 3rd alarm was then transmitted.

The interior crews asked for the charlie side garage door to be opened up. Engine's 154 & 161 were ready with the 3rd 2 1/2 on the charlie side...

Heavy smoke started to vent pretty well from both the A & C sides.

The involved occupancy was a bike shop with a lot of clutter inside, crews began clearing it out for better access as the 3rd 2 1/2 line was advanced in.

With the temperature at 25 degrees and a couple thousand feet of hose layed out, the 3rd alarm companies were held for a little while. Here Engine 184 & Tower 45 check in with command.
