I took a few moments the other day to snap a few shots of my department's antique before it left for the St. Paddy's Day parade. This 1954 Mack B-75 750/300 was placed into service at Engine 1. It saw action at many engine companies in Wilmington as a front line and reserve piece through the 1970's and into the early 80's. It spent several years under a tarp at the fireboat station until 2000 when several members of the department worked to restore it for the career department's 80th anniversary in 2001. The engine is pretty much all original and is still owne by the department.

Wow, 2nd B-75 produced....I did not know that, any idea who the first one went to? Not sure if this particular engine was part of a multiple order for Wilmington or not. Wilmington did have a fair number of Macks in the 30's thru the 60's, including quite a few B's. Let me look around and see if I have any other photos of this engine.

A later in service shot (circa 1970's), on the ramp of the now closed Center City Super Station, showing the added deck pipe, beacon light, and rear "lolliop" flashers. Credit to original photographer, I don't have a record of who it was. Most likely when this shot was taken the engine was a reserve or very close to being one. It is also possible that it was assigned to another engine and not re-lettered. I have another photo of Engine 1 in a 1958 Mack B (which I will post next).

This is Engine 1 in the 58 Mack B (95) I believe. It is also possible that this was the 2nd piece of Engine 1, through the 60's Wilmington was still using 2 piece engine companies, so the 54 and the 58 could have both been assigned to Engine 1 at the same time. Credit to original photographer. I do have more pictures of Wilmington's B's, however most of them are not my photos, as a large majority of them were gone long before I was old enough to picl up a camera, but I would be happy to post the ones that are mine if anyone wants.
