Note: Purchased as a Demo in 2011 for the rural fire district. This is why it was delivered with an eQ2b instead of a real Q2b siren. Also the CAFS system came with the unit and is seldom used.
This is a neat compact machine with a very low urban hose bed.

Here is the rear of Paola, Kansas Engine 3 and Engine 4. Paola likes to keep the machines simple and urban.
Engine 3 Sutphen Shield body double deep high side with low side ladders.
Engine 4 HME SFO/ Aherns Fox. This is a great wheel base and a super low urban hose bed.

Thanks glad you enjoy them. They are volunteer with a part-time fire chief. They are an impressive group of firemen. They are well trained and very dedicated. Being all volunteer they are a mix of career firemen from departments in the Kansas city metro, retired firemen, and local residents and business owners that volunteer. The city does offer a retirement benefit for the volunteers and they also are active in the KSFFA Kansas Firemen's Association Relief Fund. They always have a waiting list for hiring. The Chief has a keen eye for fire apparatus design and keeping it simple. He is not a fan of fancy electronic gadgets on fire apparatus. I really like and embrace his thought process. With that they have very few maintenance issues with the apparatus.
Stay Safe,
Rick

Last Tuesday KCFD Pumper 71 became Pumper 27.
Pumper 27 was disbanded in 1979. From 1979-1994 Squad 27 midi-pumper (FAO & Firemen) operated from Fire House 27. In 1996 when the new Fire House 27 was opened at the same location it became the sole quarters for Haz-Mat 71 consisting of Pumper 71, Support 71, Utility 71 and in recent years Foam Tanker 1. Support 71 is now know as Haz-Mat 71. This change occurred since KCFD will provide Fire Alarm services for Raytown, MO and Grandview, MO in the coming months. One department will take fifty series and one will take the seventy series on the KCFD Fire Alarm Channel A1. Southern Plate currently operates in the sixty series on A1. Since neither department operates a speciality company. Haz-Mat 71 will keep there memorial number deticated to the six firemen of Pumper 30, Pumper 41 that lost their lives in the 1988 explosion. However one department will assume the Pumper 71 designation. The KCFD Fire Acadmey pumper also no longer carries the Pumper 51 designation. Since one department will assume the Pumper 51 designation.
Another note, Belton, MO is currently specing two pumpers. Preliminary reports appear the department will be returning to RED from the current lemon-yellow color scheme. If this change occurs this would leave Central Jackson County, Lee's Summit, and Kearney as the only three metro departments still purchasing yellow. At one time in the Kansas City metro over twelve departments used lime-green or yellow.

Its a shame they are changing the HazMat houses indentifiers, but Im Glad to hear they will keep HazMat 71's designation as a small reminder. The memeorial site is nice on the new highway.
