Chief with the relocation of Rescue 1 to Sta.6 what is the status of the Rescues Ladder and Squad, did they go also and if not what is the staffing for those at Sta.1 ???

The 135" aerial is now assigned to the Squad Company as a special-call unit for target hazards. The Squad Company officer may elect to take it on any alarm where he feels it may be of use. The Squad Company still responds from Station 1, sharing those quarters with the newly formed Engine Company 1. Squad 1's normal complement is one officer and two firefighters. Their normal response vehicle is similar to all of our other EMS units, an extended-cab 4x4 chassis with a utility box. They carry a different compliment of equipment from the other EMS units, as their primary fireground assignment is vertical vent. They also carry a compliment of HRT equipment as a backup to our Rescue Company.

 

Engine Companies 6 & 7 were put out of service at 0800 this morning, and Engine Company 1 was placed in service. The times, they are a-changing.

I was thinking Chief, that Engine 1 is the now the product of what were three companies: 12, 7 and 6. 13 minus 12.....spooky.

I hadn't done the math, but it's not incorrect. We are about a week into the "Realignment" and so far, so good. Engine Co. 1 is busier than hell (surprising no one), and response times on the average are close to the same. We will adjust to this . . . it's just unfortunate that we had to.

Yeah, cut, cut and cut. Been thru the same on my job, and this year, they want more again.


Before you go (off into the blissfull land of all your days off) is there any chance you could post a run down of the 'cuses companies, and what they're running for equipment?

So who got Engine 7's Sutphen? Isn't that the one that retained some flood damage? How is it running now, after the fact?

Engine 7's 2010 Sutphen went to Engine 18 (see the SFD roster up a few posts). We have had virtually no unusual maintenance issues with this vehicle since it went for an unauthorized swim . . . At least so far, and I would think any flood-related gremlins would have reared their ugly little heads by now. An excellent and diligent maintenance shop crew and exceptional factory and dealer support get the credit.
