I believe Beverly, MA PD has ordered three new Dodge Chargers after a PD-civilan accident in January that resulted in a civilian fatality. There were documented reports from several different officers over the course of a few months of random acceleration in some of the Ford Crown Vics. Ford investigators found nothing wrong with the vehicles in question but I guess the city is not taking any chances.

Most places only look at the dollar signs.
In my experiences, our municipalities and public budgeting officials "know the cost of everything but the value of nothing."
Come on now Howie. If that were the case,m why is Cambridge ISO CLass 1 and why isn't Cambridge PD running Impalas?
LOL, I wasn't even thinking about Cambridge. I haven't been there long enough to form an opinion. But elsewhere....
They would save a ten cents on the original purchase price knowing it was going to cost them 50 cents more down the road.
Commonwealth of Virginia is switching to these road hogs.

Hands down, the black charger with the black rims & chrome center cap is the most intimidating one in the bunch!!!

I will take a ride down to Greenport, thanks for the heads up.
John, As far as I know that law is no longer in effect, Almost all of Albany County SO's fleet is white/gold or black/gold. Not a charger, but to illustrate:

Thanks Eli, if you get a chance to chat with the Deputies confirm that for me will ya and nice shot
Yeah the old "it has to be red" thing went out the window I want to say about 5 years ago...all of Onondaga County's (Syracuse) units are Black with gold...several Erie County (Buffalo) units went that way as well in the new vehicle order.
While speaking of the loosening of state color guidelines, most Indiana departments are moving away from the old brown over tan to either Champaign/Gold single, white or black...Ford stopped offering those IN Specific colors, and it added nearly $1,500 to every car to have them custom painted.

I saw one of Beverly's new Chargers on the road today. They are black and white, but with the same graphics as the grey cars. So now we have THREE different color scemes going, LOL. I'm not a fan of black and white, but they sure look better than the grey cars. They also have the black rims with chrome center caps, which look good too! |
