You can't tell me that would be legal anywhere. Unless there is a tremendous structure under the tank fixing it to the chassis, that would surely not hold up to any lateral force.

Any guess as to the tank size, and can you even drive it down the highway, in it's current condition?????

This rig is looking for a place for a wreck to happen. There are several issues visible in the photo that would most likely make this rig illegal for road use in most states and provinces.

im not so sure i'd feel comfortable driving down the road with that in the bed like that. was this piece ever a pittsburgh engine, it sure has all the charactoristics of it

I agree with all the comments above. Like I stated before, the truck was at a church construction site, that looked like it had received new sod. The site is not anywhere near the location that is marked on the compartment door near the rear. As the photo shows, there was nothing securing the tank to the truck. We have a pretty aggressive commercial vehicle enforcement program in the state, with the State Patrol, and several cities, who have their own units. I have to think that the truck was not driven over in it's present condition. The tank was likely added on site. The question I have is why go thru all the trouble of loading the tank onto the truck each time you use it. That old rig has been on ebay a couple of times in the last year. I know back about this time last year it was owned by a guy in Clinton, MD that also had it up for sale. I went to llok at the old girl, and she was in very sad shape. What a shame this classic old rig was allowed to rot. I hope someone gets her and has the cash to restore her to her former glory.

Some one did buy it and I think the plan is to restore it and donate it back to the city or something along those lines. I think there was a thread on the watch desk about it.

This is an ex-LA County Crown up for auction back prior to the holidays. This is the photo from the auction site. I believe this was the oldest Crown the county still had in some type of service. If I remember correctly, it was a 1968, and used for training. Here is a front, rear, and cab shot.

Yup, it's been there about 6-7 years. A bunch of yahoos from up nawth (who were not Firefighters 'cause they couldn't cook) tried their hand at fixin' Southern BBQ. They brought that truck with them but left it at the rest. when they sold out. It apparently runs, it moves from place to place in the parking lot. BTW, I KNOW some of you Yankee boys CAN cook good BBQ. We have a few scattered around our Dept.

Golly guys, take a joke. The boys from "up nawth" that work in our Southern FD never miss a chance to give us grief, why would we do otherwise. OK, as it's been said, back to relics.

Now I've heard the term "bathtub cab" used in reference to older ALFs. I think this is taking it a little too far tho. A 1970 ALF Pioneer awaits it's fate at a junk shop in Dalton, Ga.

This truck reportedly DOES run and is for sale. $4500.00 ballpark. Any info? Builders plate next photo.
