Hazmat 3 tows the airport's foam trailer, but is available to respond off the airport property. It is one of the very few units left in the old yellow paint scheme. Hazmat 3 was one of the last minipumpers used, and is a 1992 International 4900/Sutphen 250/300, with the foam trailer carrying 1000 gallons of AFFF.
The mass casualty unit is a 1989 Kurbmaster/Saulsbury that formerly ran as Hazmat 1.
Hazmat 1 runs out of Station 5 and is cross manned by the crews when required. HM 1 is a 2011 Sutphen/SVI.
Car 2 runs out of Station 5 and is one of 3 district chiefs, who use 2010 Chevrolets.
So are they going back to the quint/squirt engine companys? I thought I heard they were going to stop that and go with just regular engine companys.
Quote:So are they going back to the quint/squirt engine companys? I thought I heard they were going to stop that and go with just regular engine companys. They are going back to the quints. I was told the only reason they went away from them was due to budget, they couldn't afford the booms, but they needed 3 trucks. The Sutphen engines are very nice rigs, but the consensus was the guys preferred the booms. Quote:Ladder 1 is the only straight ladder run on the department. Formerly known as the Rescue Ladder, as it was assigned as the Rescue Company's third piece, it is now a special call truck brought by Squad 1. Ladder 1 is a 1985 E-One 135 foot. whats the function of the rescue ladder???
Station 7 was recently closed due to budget conditions. Station 8 houses Car 3, another 2010 Chevrolet District Chief.
Station 8 is on a very busy street, and the sun really played with us here. We did the best we could, but this will need to be revisited in the early morning to take advantage of the sun.
Engine 8 was heavily damaged in an accident, so Spare Engine 8 has been running for several months. It is a 1999 Spartan Gladiator/Saulsbury 2000/500/50 foot.
Also housed at station 8 is Recall Engine 8, also a 1999 Spartan Gladiator/Saulsbury 2000/500/50 foot.
Spare engines are only loaded with hose, and all equipment must be transferred from the rig going out of service. Recall rigs are fully loaded, and are available during major emergencies for use by recalled firefighters. |
