This former pumper is now a dedicated tanker support unit.  As you may have noticed, the apparatus are lettered for both Statesboro and Bulloch County, since the Department covers both areas.  Most calls for Tanker 1 are outside the City and Squad 1 responds with it.

From Statesboro, we headed southeast to Bryan County.  The County has ten stations and is divided by Fort Stewart, with five stations north and five south.  Two stations on each side of the Army base are staffed.  There has been a recent shuffle of apparatus and lettering has not yet caught up with assignments.

Bryan County purchased seven of these pumpers, including one that serves the City of Pembroke.

Just my guess:

Small rural department, most of the times responds with one person. Area has lots of farms and gated lots. Rather than walk around to R2 compartment to get master key, they can get out and right there it is to pop lock and open gate.

One of our primary targets was Pooler, where we met up again with "chief60" and photographed all his new rigs since our last visit.  Thanks, Chief!
