Tough Extrication - Portland 4-15-15
#1
At 0619 Portland 911 received a call from Portland Police requesting an engine at their training area on Airport Way. When the police had arrived, they noticed a tree at the entrance was broken off and they found a pickup truck that was hidden by the foliage. It had apparently crashed during the night and had gone unnoticed. The driver was deceased.

Engine 2, Truck 2 and Battalion Chief 3 were dispatched. First, the tree was entangled in the wreckage and had to be cut up and removed, then the victim was extricated. The operation took more than 1/2 hour.

The tree had been uprooted and that may be the truck's spare tire embedded in the roots.

The men with black helmets are our Trainees. This was just their 2nd shift on Engine 2 and Truck 2.

The impact separated the cab and the bed by about one foot.

Looks like a wicked amount of intrusion into the cab by the tree! Great photos as always!
