Saturday would be a great day for blue skies, but frustrating for getting apparatus shots. We headed northwest to an area around Jasper, TN. There are numerous Volunteer FD's in the area and we'd hoped to find people available. We were wrong! The first few stations we tried without any luck. At our third stop, we hit paydirt.

Marion County, TN is a very rural area and visiting there is like taking a big step back in time. There are numerous older fire apparatus there and those were the gems we were hunting.

The guys at Sequatchie were extremely helpful, giving us contacts to several area departments. We set out and spent the next several hours making calls and visiting stations, but without one bit of success. Targets had included a Mack CF Aerialscope, a Hahn 84, a WLF tandem-axle pumper-tanker, rigs painted white/kelly green, and another pair of Maxim pumpers, an F and an S. Very frustrating! After a miserable ride of over 20 miles on a narrow, winding, hilly road that hugged the west bank of the Tennessee River, we ended up at Signal Mountain.

The next stop was Soddy Daisy. Jon was able to shoot several rigs here that I already had, but I did manage to add a few.

Any plans on hitting Rhea County TN ? I've been trying to track down Elverson PA's 1980 CF Mack pumper last seen at Rhea County Fire Station 750 - Frazier.

Rhea County is very rural and all volunteer, making finding someone to pull apparatus out for photos a near impossibility or just sheer luck! One of the guys at Signal Mountain FD (Jody Meeks) is the owner of 5-Alarm Fronts and Leather Work and has done some really nice leather work for me. Thanks for showing his rigs!

Soddy Daisy recently replaced the above Engine 2 with this rig purchased from somewhere in NY or PA. I didn't write it down for some reason and I can't recall where. Perhaps Jon will chime in....

Next up is "Beulah", a 1950 Ahrens-Fox HC, sedan-cab, 1000/350, that originally served the Freindship FD in Royersford, PA. I first photographed her in the late 1980's. She has recently been refurbished and looks incredible!
