On June 6, the Donnellson, IA VFD had their first-ever open house.  The members closed the street in front of the station, pulled everything out, served food and refreshments and had displays inside and out.  It was all well done and they were hoping for a big turnout from the community and the surrounding area of Lee County.

All of the rigs had a display board telling the cost of each piece of equipment carried on each rig.  Did I take a photo of any of them?  No.  Icon_redface

Quote:Rescue rig.  This is a former Linn-Mar School District bus which also serves as a rolling gear carrier and goes to all major calls.  Many of  Olin's volunteers live outside of town so they will meet the bus at the scene.
interesting but functional concept i like the idea

One of the other depts shown in this thread, Fairfield, does something similar. They have an old delivery truck(think Pepsi, Coke etc) that has all the members gear on it. For city calls all members go directly to the scene and get their gear off that truck.

Here is a short Des Moines-area update.  During an overnight trip I did see a few apparatus in the Des Moines suburbs.

First stop was at Ankeny, whose Station 1 is adjacent to the Tall Trestle bike trail which we rode.  Ankeny Truck 132 was out and working with the 100' ladder.

At Johnston Station 1 I was able to photo a couple of rigs before the crews had to go out on inspections.
