Phoenix Metropolitan Area Fire Apparatus
A couple of action shots from Glendale -

Engine 151's new E\-One Typhoon.  I'm not sure if this is an EMax or not.

Took a little trip over to the shops today and shot Peoria's new brush truck.  This replaces Brush 196's 2003 Ford F-550/E-One, which was stripped and sold.  Here is it's twin, Brush 199.  It's still at Station 199 at Lake Pleasant.  No plans just yet to replace it.

Here's the new brush truck - Going to 195's for now.  Not sure of it's ultimate destination, probably either 195 or 196.

The shop crew stripped the skid unit from the old brush truck, rebuilt it, then put a new body on the chassis and outfitted it all.  They did a really nice job, and it's got some clever features on it, suggested by the wildland crews.

Left side + Compartments (the photos are deceiving - there is tons of available space in the compartments)

Here's a really cool feature the shop crew built themselves.  It's been done before, but I think they put a very clever spin on it.

There is a set of foldable "arms" on the front and back for 1" wildland hose.  The front is equipped with an electric discharge.  They put a gated wye on it, then hook up with wildland hose.  Instead of having to reload the hose before moving during a brush fire, they raise the arms and then just do a figure-8 wrap with the hose around the arms, then move on.

One other clever feature they incorporated (much like the spare tire carrier on Engine 199's Interface rig) was the ability to carry a spare tire for strike team deployments (required by law).

They created a spare tire carrier, mounted to a square hitch, which goes into a receiver below the skid mount pump.  That way they can take a spare along on deployments and not tie up any compartment space.  It was inside and I didn't want to bother them to show me.  It just thought it's a clever idea.

Still 8-10 months out on the Rosenbauers.  I confirmed they will be on the Commander chassis, and will replace rigs at 192, 193 and 195 (I believe).  It hasn't been fully decided yet, but the Spartan/Rosies may go directly into reserve, as 192 and 195's rigs (both 2010's) have more miles and have been run harder than the mid-2000 era ALF's at 196 and 197.  The ALF's are apparently in somewhat better shape (much slower stations) and the crews are fairly happy with them.

Some other exciting Peoria news is that there is a new Ladder scheduled for FY17, to replace Ladder 191's 2003 ALF 93' MM.  From what I'm hearing, the new rig will likely be a Rosenbauer Commander mid-mount tower.

Interesting, I hadn't heard yet about the "North County" thing.  I will say no more lest I be punished for getting political.
