Phoenix Metropolitan Area Fire Apparatus
Peoria Engine 199 (Lake Pleasant) is currently running with this rig. Their regular rig (Freightliner/Rosenbauer 4x4 interface) is deployed out of state. I couldn't find the fleet #, but this is a 2004 E\-One/Saulsbury 1250/500/80a that is a reserve, ex-Engine 193, 194 or 195. I'll have to ask the fleet guys. I have no idea when the regular rig will be back. I think one of Peoria's Type 6 brush trucks is deployed, too. Crazy chevrons on the bumper, eh? I don't know if this rig's two brothers have these shop-installed chevrons or not.

Not much apparatus action lately, but caught a couple of BC/DC rides recently:

Phoenix North Deputy Chief

2002 Ford F-250 (I'm not sure this is really their primary rig (it's pretty old) - It might just be a spare)

Peoria will be putting three new Rosenbauer Commander pumpers into service in the next few weeks.  They're still at Rosenbauer in Minnesota undergoing final inspection.  Except for the cab, they look very similar to the 5 Spartan/Rosenbauer rigs delivered between 2010 and 2012.

I would guess the new rigs may be assigned to Engines 192, 193 and 195, replacing Spartan/Rosenbauer's of 2010 (E192, E195) and 2011 (E193) vintage.

Here's a final inspection pic, just for starters:

Here's North County Fire Medical, Engine 104. This is a fairly new company established to help cover the recently annexed homes in unincorporated Maricopa County which are otherwise served by Rural Metro from far away. Residents in this area can either get annexed into North County, or subscribe to Peoria Fire, as Peoria essentially surrounds the whole area.

I don't know E\-One rigs as well as others, but this looks like a late 90's/early 2000's Sentry model. No specs

Peoria just took delivery of three brand new Rosenbauer Commander pumpers.

These rigs are 1500/500/50a/200cfm CAFS, and are to be assigned to Engines 192, 193 and 195.

The existing rigs (2010-2012 era Spartan/Rosenbauers) will be assigned as reserves (i.e. spares), sending the three 2004 E\-One/Saulsbury pumpers to auction (after the academy cadets get done with them).  Engine 192's 2010 rig alone has something like 160,000 miles on it, so it makes sense to send it to reserve.

Originally it was thought that two of the Spartan/Rosies would replace Engine 197's 2005 ALF Eagle (x-E196) and Engine 196's 2007 ALF Eagle (x-E191), but these rigs are actually in good shape, they don't put a lot of miles on them, and the crews like them, so they're staying put.

Here's Engine 195's rig, almost ready to hit the road.  Engine 192 and 193 aren't too far behind.

After several years of trying, Peoria is supposed to get it's authorization from the State of Arizona (CON - Certificate of Necessity) to begin operating it's own ambulances.  Most of metro Phoenix (with the major exception of Phoenix itself and a couple of small Fire districts) use contracted ambulance service, through Southwest Ambulance (a Rural/Metro company), PMT (also a Rural/Metro company), AMT (ALSO a Rural/Metro Company) or AMR (new to the region).  This is a less-than-ideal situation for patient care, and many Cities are hoping the Peoria experiment will be successful.

Peoria currently uses PMT as it's contracted transport service, with (IIRC) 5 full time ambulances (191, 192, 193, 194, 195) and two peak time rigs (196, 199).

It will take a couple of years to fully implement the plan, but as Peoria doesn't actually own any ambulances (yet), and the State won't approve the CON until they do, the solution was to lease a reserve from North County Fire (formerly Sun City West), in order to get the approval.  The shop guys don't know if this rig will actually go into service (the City's first two rigs are on order, I guess), but the crew was doing some PM on it anyway.  Sorry about the inside photo - The shop was kind of jammed up and I didn't want to bother them to move a bunch of rigs to get it out.  It's not in full Peoria "colors" - the three white North County stripes left on, but you get the idea.

The plan for Peoria's ambos will be to use Ford F-350 chassis, then remount the box on a new chassis every few years.  They don't need the extra length like this one, and the heaver chassis would require air suspension to lower the height for patient loading, which they don't want to deal with, given the high call volume.

Here's a rig that rarely sees daylight:  Peoria's Medical Support 193 ("MS-193").  There are two of these rigs, pretty much identical.  IIRC, this one runs as a Mass Casualty rig.  The other one runs as MS-194, a Decon rig at Station 4.

Glendale reserve E\-One Hush running as "Engine 1596". This is common in Metro Phoenix where a rig is crewed with an academy crew paired with a career Captain and Engineer. They "jump" calls to get the recruits realtime experience. They don't replace first due rigs at calls, but simply respond as extra manpower.

20xx E\-One Hush 1500/500

Glendale has many of these era rigs which are being replaced by new E\-One Typhoon E-Max's. The replaced rigs are going into reserve and/or replacing even older Hush's at the academy.

Peoria's getting ready to put some more new rigs into service.  As part of the new ambulance service I referenced in an earlier posting, Peoria has received it's first permanent ambulance.  The leased North County Fire (formerly Sun City West) 2006 F-450/Road Rescue will be going back (it was never placed in service with Peoria).

Peoria Rescue 193 - 2016 Ford F-350/North Star (Braun NW) Type I 4x4.  This is the first of three that Peoria will be getting (for now).

Peoria's third Commander isn't quite ready for service yet, but almost.  The first two (Engines 192 and 195) are already on the road.
