I was out trying to get some photos of a project that I am working on when I heard the tone for a working structure fire on the Pulsepoint app that I have on my phone. .Right after that I heard the Captain of Engine 1 calling Fire Dispatch and asking if they had a working fire report in the downtown area. Dispatch informed him that they had just dispatched it out and there were numerous calls. Engine 1 reported that they had a large header in the downtown area and that it was a working fire. Engine 1 called for a 2nd Alarm right after getting on scene due to the size of the Structure.

 

I was able to make it on scene within 5 to 10 minutes and was able to get some good shots.Below is the press release that the PIO for the department made.

Two Alarm Fire Damages Downtown Vacant Apartment Building

No Injuries Were Reported During Incident

 

Las Vegas fire dispatchers received numerous 9-1-1 calls at 12:20 p.m. Saturday that flames were coming out a window of a vacant apartment building at 232 S. Seventh Street (on corner of Bridger Ave). When firefighters arrived on scene heavy smoke was showing from the building and a palm tree was also on fire. A second alarm was dispatched to bring additional personnel and equipment.

 

As firefighters were setting up to fight the fire, they said squatters were leaving the building. A private security firm arrived on scene and detained three of the squatters as they were leaving the building.

 

It took firefighters approximately thirty minutes to bring the fire under control. The building has no utilities connected to it. It was boarded up also. A representative of the property management firm that watches over the building told fire investigators the building has been vacant for 15 years.

 

Fire investigators believe the fire started in a room on the second floor and spread. The rooms still have furniture and mattresses in them which adds fuel to the fire. There was evidence that squatters were staying in the building including drug paraphernalia. Fire investigators talked to three individuals that were detained by security personnel that are watching the property. After the interview it was determined they were not directly involved with the fire, but was squatting in the building and left when they noticed the building was filling with smoke on the first floor.

 

The exact cause of the fire could not be determined, it is believe squatters are responsible.

 

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 damage.

 

There were no reported injuries during the incident.

I was actually able to get a shot of smoke and a little bit of fire. The department is very good at getting the fire knocked down very quickly.

Good shots. Out of curiosity whats with the different color helmets?  I see yellow, red and orange.  I'm sure its for different ranks and such but what's the breakdown?

Thank you, I process all of my photos in Photoshop as I shoot them in Raw. The watermark is a signature that I did through Photoshop and I have been having issues getting it changed to be 2018 so I continue to use that one. I add it through the brush tool.
