Dodge Chargers

Well I'm stuck in Lafayette, LA waiting on an air compressor for my truck <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Fortunately for me our own Daryl (Sundog) lives down here, so I've been getting the tour and got a chance to shoot the city PD...but he had been hunting for this Charger for a month. I'm police car lucky like that and spotted it at the hospital.

Looks like a Beverly jake rubbing the hood of that police car. I would imagine thats all us firefighters like about their job! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
While I didn't get a picture of it. Last Sunday morning I saw a Charger in New York State Tropper colors. The plate on it indicated it was from F troop, I not sure what part of the state that is. CNY is D troop. I drive by a NYSP station, no less than twice a day and have seen nothing more than Crown Vics and Tahoes parked there. Would the Chargers be replacing the Crown Vics, if so you would think there would be more out there or maybe replacement for the old Camaro for high speed pursuits!

I am told the Ford CV wil soon be discontinued and some PD (like Arlington VA) are checkign out the cahrger for evaluation as initial reviews are positive.

It will... if you call 2012 "soon". <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/drcruiser.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

That rumor has been floating around since 1995. But then rumor from a reliable source has Chevy coming out with a rear wheel drive model to battle the Charger as early as 2008.

I haven't heard that about Chevy but that is good news. If only they would bring back the LT1 Caprice.
The "PI's demise in 2008" rumor stems from Ford making the Crown Vic a fleet-only purchase in 2008. For those that remember, they did the same thing to the Taurus a year before its demise. However, Ford itself says the PI will hang around until at least 2012. Sorry to ruin the Dodge topic with talk about Fords and Chevys. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Quote:Sorry to ruin the Dodge topic with talk about Fords and Chevy's. Like the automotive industry ... a little competition is healthy. My information is the new "full" size Chev will share modular frame components with the re-introduced Camaro. Should be interesting. But on the other hand Dodge still does all the police package prep work in house whereas Ford and GM farm out the work to a sub-contractor. Worst of all, the Dodge plant where the Charger is assembled is a very difficult place to access and photograph. The place is surrounded by berms, wire fences and security cameras. From the street you see nothing.

General Motors has been selling RWD V-8 sedans all over the world since the demise of the Caprice in 96. Rumors keep poping up that they will bring one back. More the most part they have been selling them in South Africa, Australia, and the Middle East. Thsy have the Checvy 6.0 litre engine in them. The GTO sold in this country is a variation of this platform. It is built on the Holden chassis.
Here is a link to what we are missing http://www.chevroletarabia.com/content_dat...html?cntryCd=QA Needless to say I have owned two Luminas, niether looked like that! tim/csff25
Very true ... GM does build these vehicles for foreign markets. The main reason they are not available in North America is that most of these "over seas" models do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (basically the same standard other than the Canadian version is written in two languages).

Attached is a great newspaper story about the Dodge "police package" Charger
Virginia State Police just took delivery of five unmarked Chargers.
They have been assigned to Norther Virginia to run the Beltway and I-66, and to the Shenandoah area to run I-81.
VA SP also has at least one marked unit

Bedford, OH Police -- Traffic Unit From the NPCA Collection
Why bother with the POLICE markings on that car?? May as well leave it unmarked!

VASP has quite a few of them, I believe the first order was for 50, half marked and half unmarked. From troopers I talked to they love them, and the new graphics scheme that came with them, and if they continue to do well they expect them to phase out the entire fleet of Crown Victorias for Chargers in the coming years.

I was at the Square One Mall in Saugus, MA recently, and Simon Mall Security was tooling around the parking lot in a plain black Charger with a mini green light bar on the roof, LOL.

Ohio has a law that all traffic enforcement cars be marked with police, and have a light on the top of the vehicle. |
