9-11 Memorial Service--Hazleton, PA

I am lucky of late, I am out on permanent disability due to lung issues and I am able to work as a Stringer for the local news paper. Now the pay is not great but heck I really enjoy it.

I was given an assignment this past week to cover the 2020 9-11 Memorial Service that the Hazleton Fire Department has every year. It was a very sad and gut wrenching event.

I arrived at the ceremony early so that I would be able to catch it as they arrived and set up.


Right after I arrived, but before I had the camera out of the car the firefighter in charge of the event put the flag at half mast.

The Chief of the Hazleton Fire Department addresses the ceremony and asks the up and coming members of the department and the fire service to never forget the events of 9-11-01 and the fallen members of the fire service.

In August history for the department was made when the City of Hazleton swore in their first Career Female firefighter Dianna Barna, she is seen here with Hazleton Firefighter Tony Colombo.



Here she is with the on duty crew of the Hazleton Fire Department. (As a side note during the ceremony part of the on duty crew had to leave due to a guy having a controlled burn in his yard that was paged out. They were back within 15 minutes.}
