Pittsburg, Kansas Fire Department

Fire House 1

built: 2009

 

I have had the photos for a couple of years. Pittsburg is a community in south east Kansas with a populations of 20,000 with three fire houses within twelve square miles. They fully staff two Engine's, one Quint, one Batt Chief, and staff the Tower Ladder with a driver. The community is home to Pitt State University and a hub for the south east Kansas strip mining industry. The last fire house one was housed downtown in the city's old steam plant. It was two story with two brass poles. The department with staffing and equipment had out grown the fire house. The City has developed a unique way to fund capital building projects. They ask the voters for a sales tax with an expiration date once the projected is paid for. This has allowed the city over the years to construct a new Fire House Three, Police Headquarters, City Pool, City Hall, City Water Treatment Plant.

As you turn right from the stairs is the weight room with fire pole access on the right and the dining hall across on the left. The kitchen is diagonal to the dining hall.

The dayroom is across from the kitchen in a self contained room.

 







 

 

As you leave the kitchen hallway you enter the bunk room north south hallway. Individual bunk rooms are on the east side left and night watch alarm desk and showers are on the right side. The door at the end of the hall leads to a second floor patio with grill.

Lower level Street side.


This fire house looks very cool the bays face a busy street and the second floor is the main entrance facing a neighborhood street and looks like a house. This had one fire pole that was removed and is stored at fire house one. It was called the speed pole due the small diameter of the pole.


Recognize the name on the stone Leo M. Ellebracht. Mr. Ellebracht was the Missouri Seagrave Dealer for many many years and supplied the St. Louis Metro and Kansas City Metro with superior Seagrave Fire Apparatus. You know real fire engines and trucks even some that bend in the middle

I can remember driving by this old station with my parents. My Grandparents lived in the area and I remember driving by the station and the doors being open and the rigs being visible.

the old Gardenville Volunteer Fire Protection District station taken in the late 50's early 60's. The Station is long gone and is now the site of Affton Fire Protection District Station 3





this one was taken back in the 1970's to early 1981's. I was sent this picture in 2006 that is why the 2006 date.
