Due to a limit of their station depth, this engine is designed to be shorter in length than the rest of their fleet and is the third such "shorty" since 2004.  The 2012 shorty will become a dedicated reserve for Engine 2, like the 2004 before it.  The 2004 shorty will be removed from the fleet.  Compare this rig to the one in the next post and see the differences in the bumper extension, cab length and body length.  The reduced water tank capacity allows for a lower hose bed.

On August 5th, in a pouring thunderstorm (of course!), I met up with "The Silent One" in Roanoke, VA to begin a nine day venture to photograph fire apparatus.  Rain would limit our shooting on most days, but we managed to capture a fair number of our targets.  The storm was short-lived and we managed to shoot some Roanoke area rigs that day and the next, before getting rained out again and heading north to Jon's timeshare in Massanutten.  Here are the results:
