It was a pretty nice day. It started of a little cold, mid 30's. Luckily it warmed up quickly into the 50's, the clouds broke away and the sun came out. It was nearly perfect!!

Hey. Nice shots of Metro St. Louis. I lived in Warson Woods when I was a kid.



Does anybody remember a major conflagration back in the late 70's? I vaguely remember as a kid reading about it. It was in an industrial area of St. Louis.



I think St. Louis may have even lost an engine or two in the fire...



Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Sorry Paramedic IL, The rigs were displayed rather fast along the Mississippi River front as part of the IFBA convention that year in St. Louis. Hopefully some St. Louis area buff can supply us the information.

First off Great oldie shots doczaff., I never knew East St.Louis FD had yellow rigs. some addnl info on some of your rigs, Caseyville FD Ladder is a 1976 Ford C/Pierce Snorkel, this truck has just been replaced this year by a Sutphen Ladder truck, I hope to get a picture of it this summer. Fairview FD Ladder Truck is a 85 Ft. 1972 Seagrave, the rig was replaced by a 100 Ft 1989 Simon Duplex LTI Ladder truck, that is still in service.

Yes there was a major fire in St. Louis in the 1970's and the fire destroyed several blocks not too far from the downtown St. Louis area. I remember talking about it around the firehouse with my dad and several members of the Gardenville Volunteer Fire Department. If I remember the fire right it cleared out almost if not all of the fire houses in the City and then they pulled in numerous departments and equipment from the county to cover the City Stations.



The city did loose at least one of their rigs. I have attacked a picture from the fire that shows a St. Louis City Fire Department Engine a crumpled mess after what appears to be a building collapsed on it. I will contact the St. Louis Fire Museaum and see if I can get anymore information on the fire and see if somebody has any more pictures of the fire.

Actually the Caseyville snorkel is a 1962 Ford C/Towers <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/BananaMan.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> 750/300/50ft. I'm sorry to hear that they finally did replace it though <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> ;I guess it was time though. The Fairview Seagrave aerial was replaced by 1988 Duplex/LTI 1500/300/102ft.

BTW great old pics. It's nice to see something other than the usual "cookie cutter" 4dr's of today.

Thanks for the corrections Frank Yes Caseyville replaced the Ford C Ladder in January.

You know DJ, now that I think about, I seem to remember something about Bill F telling me that Caseyville had bought a Ford C/Pierce Snorkel used from Lebanon IL. If that's true,we're both sort of right. The Snorkel pictured is definately the Towers;you may have been thinking about the newer rig.If that's the case, the Pierce sure didn't last very long with them HUH? I shot the Towers in 1999, and seem to remember it still being there in 2001 also.

Yup,That's definately not a Towers. So we were talking about 2 different rigs. Any idea when the Pierce showed up?

I would say 1976 since thats what my notes say but im not 100% sure.

That sounds about right, I remember the fire. I have contacted one of the fire museums in St. Louis to see if they have any more information on the fire.

here are some shots of the fire boat Jack Buck at the shops for routine maintainance. i just got lucky yesterday! there were quite a few rigs at the shops. The 6's were picking up their recently serviced rig( i heard the radio transmission on that one, the rig would start at an automatic alarm run) they dropped off one of the KME/LTI's designated as 107 or former Engine 7. the 17's were down there also with mechanical problems, the 2's had reserve 119. I found out what happened to the 11's. back when we had the snow storm earlier this year, they skidded off the road and bent up the frame they are still rollin' with reserve 122. Here are some of the boat and some randoms from the shops from numerous different trips.
