Back in the outer reaches of Floyd Bennett Field are two pieces of NYPD history. Called LaGuardia-Pyke bomb trucks, these units were deveolped in the early 1940s after two bomb squad members were killed dealing with a bomb they found in the British Pavilion at the World's Fair in 1940. Basically the trucks are made of flexible steel elevator cable made into a series of mesh cages.

and the cable for those bonb trucks came from the brooklyn bridge

2 Truck in the past had a small TCV bomb trailer that could be towed by on eof the REP's. This looks like it has a TCV mounted on the body. If you can send the plate number I will check my reg list. Great shot! Was going to head down today with my son for the Police Museum Old Car event, nut family & work obligations got in the way (damn). |
