Wreckers
#1
I was wondering if anyone shared a fondess for wreckers?

Here are two from one of my favorite companies. They have a beautiful, modern, and well kept fleet. County Towing of Yonkers, NY & Ardsley, NY.

I'm actually rather fond of police wreckers. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/stirpot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Stirpot' />

And then there was this curiosity I spotted outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

All the towtrucks and private security vehicles I saw out there were running blue lights rather than amber.

In Spokane, Washington, all the towtrucks I saw were sporting all-red lightbars. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of those. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Doh' />

Great topic. In NM blue lights mean nothing like in DC

Very old Dodge Power Wagon from Dobson's Garage, somewhere in MD. around 1960. Note redlights and siren, probably since wreckers were used as extrication pieces during that era.

Ok, I think I'll start off tonight with some pics of hooks from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that I have taken in the past. Some of these are from the 500, and others are from the Brickyard 400.

First up is a Chevy/NO*MAR from the '95 Brickyard 400.

Ok, next up of mine are a couple pics from a local company here in Indianapolis. The company name is A-MASS. It's a Chevy 3500/Century with what looks like a Buick Roadmaster on the wheel lift.

Next up is a Kenworth T-800 tri-axle/NRC Sliding Rotator retriving a Peterbilt/Putzmiester concrete pumper who's driver couldn't read the low clearance signs and drove better than 1/2 way thru the underpass rupturing the hydraulic tank and bending all three sections of the pump boom.

Last up for me tonight is this Frieghtliner FLD120 Tri-axle with a Century 4060 wrecker body lifting a container trainer off a car in which a woman was trapped. The truck was exitting an interstate way to fast, and started to tip as the woman was passing it. She layed down on the floorboard and while sustaining serious injuries at the time, she made a complete recovery. I have a pic of the car somewhere, if everyone would like, I can look fir it and scan and post it.

I have another better shot of this wrecker that I'll scan and post.

Here's one of Hainesports 2 massive Peterbuilt Wreckers. It is shown here towing a tractor trailer away after the crane lifted it up after the trailer took our 70/72 circle too fast and rolled.
