I'll be the first to admit how good crow tastes when it's on my plate. I still stand by my concern of how large this vehicle is, and its user friendliness. I didn't get to spend a lot of time with it, the warehouse was closing and everyone was leaving. I really only got to take the pictures; however, what look I did get, I've got to say there are some pretty descent features on it. The cabinets in the crew compartment are for our EMS gear. I like how they gave us dual access - that's what that little door on the cab is. Mechanics actually had a lot of good input. There are Glad Hand couplings to pressurize the air system and permanent key points for a wrecker boom to lift the vehicle when it needs to be towed. <insert smart *** comments here>. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Hysterical' />



Compartment space didn't seem too bad. Definitely low amperage on the lighting package. Yes, that is the electronic Federal Q type siren with low draw. Pump panel is extrememly simple and clean. That's about all I have right now. Again, I didn't get to spend a lot of time with this vehicle.

Well Doc, I'm not exactly sure. If I had to take a guess though, it would be this. When Bethesda went paid, I heard a story that some disgruntled volunteers separated and started their own company. I have a picture of that company and they have a Butterfly Hahn. Eventually that company went under. The property became the first BCC, and I want to say that the equipment was sold. It is highly possible that Hahn went to Kensington.



Also, if I'm not mistaking, I apologize if I am, I believe Platform 21 was originally delivered with a gasoline engine and converted to deisel. I'm not 100% on that one; however, I do know this. That picture has the straight across, flat windshield in it. That windshield was eventually modified with a "V" in the center, because the boom used to come down and crush that windshield on a regular basis.

'52 TDA~~~Was this piece "Updated"?? Different Siren in nose.Different Fenders. Roto-Ray location changed. Plus other changes. Just a question.

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought the LAST 100' was to be another ccolor. So when laying a line you could tell when you were at the end of the bed. If this is true, then it was just packed on wrong. I believe that your assumption is correct, which provides a chuckle, that the Acadamey engine would have the hose packed incorrectly. After spending all this money for 37 CAFS engines, why a fog nozzle on the primary attack line? Do they have slugs behind them?

Wrong. You have pictured a Whelen electronic siren and Timberwolf mechanical sirens, lower draw than a Q, but not low draw by a long shot? Having said that, draw should not be a problem. Thousands of pieces of apparatus around the world support mechanical sirens. Why are so many people "worried" about them now?

BETHESDA: Doc now your barkin up my tree. Marshall you are correct at least as the history books have it. If I'm wrong on anything, sorry this all predates me I'm just goin on what I have dug up.



So it goes back in the late 1930s the Bethesda Fire Board sought to improve the "moral, skill and professionalism" of the all-volunteer Bethesda FD adding a paid chief and some firefighters mostly as drivers. As I have it the dept ran 2 engines, a rescue car and an ambo. The area was at the time seeing a building boom specifically the new Navy Med Center and NIH facility were under construction as were many houses and other real estate ventures.



On July 1 1939, a retired chief of training from the DCFD was hired along with 4 from the volunteer ranks. This so outraged the vollie chief (who reportedly was offered a paid position) that a he and a group of members soon after organized and incorporated the VFD No 1 of Bethesda Maryland. Now two depts were in the old 1926 built firehouse on Old Georgetown Rd where the south side of Woodmont Ave is now. Tensions escalated and some vollies reportedly would not follow the new chief's orders. There was also a story of a whistling boom boom device getting wired up to the spark plugs of new chiefs car while he attempted to depart a local service station whose owners were or had been volunteers. Anyway by October, the VFD No 1 of Bethesda was barred from the station. This left the Bethesda FD short-staffed so a few were hired back on making the Bethesda FD all-career.



On March 18, 1941, the VFD No 1 of Bethesda MD went in service from a member-built two-bay station (as posted by Tillerman 1664), As I have it, this sat on the north side of Fairmont Ave e/o Norfolk Ave in what was/is called the Bethesda Triangle. For apparatusa they reportedly had two engines one a new Hahn plus an older Stutz chemical city service ladder truck. (there may have been a couple of rigs in and outta there) With 2 depts serving the community, competiton arose quickly even over phone numbers. I believe a judge ultimately declared both were to share a party line with both able to respond on calls in the Bethesda District. With the onset of WWII, both depts lost personnel. By 1944, the VFD No 1of Bethesda had few members and was in financial diffculty. It too was under some scrutiny as one of its members was charged and convicted of an arson at B-CC High School where a member of the Chevy Chase FD was struck and killed standing at the pump of one of their engines. The VFD of Bethesda disbanded later in 1944 and as I have it their '41 Hahn went to the Kensington VFD as their Engine No 4. The old station on Fairmont Avenue became the second permanant home of the re-organized B-CC Rescue Squad. They lived there from 1949 until 1956 when they moved west to thier first "new" station on Auburn Ave. All of these buildings have been torn down.

Im guessing they speced the Lightbar to be off center like it is due to the scene lights on the front of the rig??

I have always said lime will rise again and here is my proof. How soon beofre logic rules and they figure if this color is soo visible why not paint the whole rig that color. Oh life is good for me......

Is this design in "full production" now or is this one going to be a prototype that subsequent apparatus of this order are critiqued and improved on? I realize that a contract is a contract but is Elite flexible enough to iron out the bugs or something such as where a manufactured pieced of equipment is mounted to satisfy the customer?

Is the center bar off center? I think you just see a part of one of smaller bars placed 90 degrees to the main bar on each side of the cab roof, which looks like part of the main light bar because the brow light is blocking the gap between them.
