Frisco NC 50 Seagrave

unknown photographer
Frank,

I visited Frisco last fall. I was told this Seagrave was a 1944 model given to Frisco (no other information).

Another interesting fact about it - this Seagrave became the current "monster fire truck" that now operates in the Virginia Beach area.

This was Green River's "newest" truck. It has been in-service for only 6 months or so I believe.

Here was another "new" delivery on my target list. Edneyville also recently bought another used engine that is kept at an unmanned sub-station & I was unable to shoot it this trip. It was a 1993 Pemfab/Darley that came from Jon's Mid-America apparatus broker, but no one knew the original department. A picture can be found on the recent deliveries page.

Newell & Mallard Creek Fire Departments in Mecklenburg County will be disbanded, as the Charlotte Fire Department expands into their territory. Mallard Creek has donated their apparatus to Huntersville Fire Department. Newell is still determining who to donate their equipment to. See story in this news video: http://www.wsoctv.com/video/28201804/index.html

Yep, as of July 1,2011 Mallard Creek and Newell VFD's are no longer fire departments in Mecklenburg COunty. I was a volunteer on Newell for 3 years when I was in college and it was sad to see them go. As our Chief made his sign off on the radio "Newell is not a place, its a state of mind". Here are Newell's rigs:

For a long time, Newell was known as the "Mack Attack" because of our two MC's and our CF Aerialscope. This Mack wasn't the last complete Mack fire truck, but was definitely near the end when Mack got out of building complete fire trucks.

This rig was certainly has seen a lot of fire in its career. The last I heard, this truck was serving as a training truck in Washington state.

I drove this truck many a night going to accidents on the interstate and countless medicals. The only thing I hated about this truck was the air-ride cab made it feel like you were going to roll the truck over going through a curve.

Here is the only shot of Mallard Creek's apparatus I have on this computer. This may have been Mallard Creek's first engine when they were formed in 1953. Newell and Mallard Creek frequently ran calls together & a lot of those guys were real good to work with.
