Next up on our countdown is Station 17. Originally located at 1384 Gordon Street SW, Company 17 placed in service February 15, 1921. Pictured is E17, L17 with an Assistant Chief car as well. 1940 Mack 1000 gpm pumper, 1949 Mack Service Truck, and a 1956 Desoto (chiefs car).

Former 17s house is used as a shelter for battered women and children. Also, 125 Ellis St -Former 4's house- is also used as a church run womens shelter also, but I believe that it is more geared towards homeless woman than the battered and abused.

IF I am not mistaken... (and I could very well be...) That Mack served as Engine #4 for many years and ran out of Atlanta Station #39 up until about 5 years ago.  Quote:IF I am not mistaken... Engine 4 ran that Mack for a number of years, but it was replaced by a newer Mack in the late 1980's. If my feeble mind is correct, the newer Mack had Ward '79 bodywork. 
Sorry if this has already been posted, but Custom Truck & Works has updated a page with some photos of Atlanta's new Command Unit. I see where there is another one in the works. I'd assume maybe for the airport unless its just talking about the same unit.

The original designation, as I recall, was Cart 1, Cart 2 etc. This did not sound good as far as scanner buffing (and media) was concerned, so they shortened it to C-1, C-2.... This became "Charlie 1", "Charlie 2"..... and in true Fire department fashion we began to then call them "Charlie Carts"!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_crazy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='  ' /> Gotta love that slang (especially when we use it without understanding it!) Is that the 1976 mack that started life with the Bicentennial paint job? The sister to engine 1 (which was the first rig I was ever assigned to)

' /> Tom[/quote] I loved Ricky too. He was a good friend and (like many of us) his good intentions were often misunderstood. He was a true American hero and unquestionably saved countless lives throughout his years on Rescue. FYI - Others: Ricky died several years ago in a car accident...

No - We were talking about Fulton County Engine #4. Can we get some pictures of the bicentennial paint jobs?
I have searched everywhere and cannot find a decent picture of the bicentennial Mack! I sure would like to see a color picture of it!

This shot was taken of Station #2 from an APD helicopter in December of 2000.
^ Nice shot Shoe, do you have anymore old disks with pictures? The old firehouse on Gordon street was closed when Company 17 was shut down due to budget cuts in 1976. Here is the current Fire Station 17 at 1489 Ralph David Abernathy SW. Company 17 was reorganized and placed in service from this new firehouse on 10/14/1987.
