I didn't expect to see this here.... This Engine, a 1974 Ford/Young Custom did belong to my department until around 1992 when it was replaced by an E\-One <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> At one time we had 3 engines, two tankers, and a Saulsbury Rescue that were all built on a Ford C series chasis..... It looked pretty good with all the apparatus in their bays as you drove by the fire station........ Some referred to our department as "The land of the Ford" This engine was unique in that it's power train was an 8v-71 Detroit diesel with an Allison 5 speed automatic transmission. The cab was purchased I believe with a cat engine and we had that removed and the Detroit and Allison dropped in......This truck truely had power! It had plates over the C8000 logos on the door that read "Custom Power" but the both ened up falling off over the years....It had a 1000 gpm pump ,1000 gallons of water and was a workhorse and everybody was sorry to see it go....... Whoever bough this truck got a great pumper.... Somewhere I have a full color fold-out sales brochure from Young that featured this truck...... I really have wanted to find this and when I do, I'll have to scan and post it....... Thanks for posting the photo.... It brings back memories..... Bill

The Ford C. Hard to belive they were designed in the 1950's.

Once the most common commercial cab in the fire service.

Now that they are not as common as they once were, they are somewhat of a novelity.

Hahn built about 250 Ford C fire apparatus, like this truck built for Springfield NJ

A 1962 Ford C-950. 750gpm, Hale

Nice extended bumper on this rig!

Lake Johanna Fire Department (serving Arden Hills, North Oaks and Shoreview, MN)

Engine 763

1968 General Safety Ford C pumper, I believe 1250 GPM and 750 tank.

I think this rig was replaced in the late 1980s and sold, possibly to a department in North Dakota or northern Minnesota. Does anyone have any other shots of 763 after it was sold or in Lake Johanna colors?

I can't swear to it, but I think it was a 2-section 35'.

mdmodeler,

If I'm reading that pump plate right, that Ford C/FMC is ex-Hallstead, PA.
