Awesome shot of the "Service Truck"! This rig was assigned on every structure fire in the City of Bloomington from 1962 until 1974 when Station 3 was opened at the Airport. My father drove this rig for a number of years before it was replaced by a 1978 ALF 1250/300/100' mid-mount quint. It was the city's reserve truck from 1978 until 1994. I believe it was sold to a collector in Decatur, IL. It was a bucket of rust when it was sold.

Back in the day, the city ran this as a quint. It had four pre-connected 1 1/2" lines (two on each side) in the compartments over the rear wheels. It also had a 200' 2 1/2" attack line stuffed into a compartment, but not pre-connected. The hose bed contained 1000' of 2 1/2" line which was often used as handline on "big" fires which used to be quite frequent in the 60's and 70's in Bloomington. When this rig ran fires in the Central Station district, Engine 1 accompanied the "Service Truck" and laid a supply line into the truck. When the truck ran into Station 2's district, the crew laid the supply line to Engine 2. Until 1991, Bloomington used to only dispatch a truck (quint) and an engine to reported structure fires.

Thanks for bringing back some good memories!

These are some of the rigs I shot during my first photo trip of 2008. I'll try to add other apparatus from my Illinois collection over time.
