I was told that this one came from Texas. Unfortunately, whoever mounted the switch on the Yellow Tag ruined the tag in the process.

Here are a few pics that I shot on a trip to Duluth in Oct. o 07. Sorry about a coulpe of the dreaded indoor shots but the engineers were in a meeting. First up is Duluth Rescue 1 sitting in its bay.

I would make a wager that Duluth Squad 1 gives an FDNY Rescue a run for its money in terms of physical & mechanical abuse, if not run volume, too.

The Duluth squad runs on pretty much every alarm in a city of about 100,000. This in a city that is 30 miles end-to-end, and has hills that rival San Francisco's. Combine that with a climate that is, ahem, "challenging" at best (with all the snow, ice, and subsequent road salt it requires), the rig certainly gets a workout.

I remember an article about the DFD in an early 1980's article in "Twin Ports" (predecessor to "Lake Superior") magazine. They rode with the squad and one of the runs was "up the hill" and the reporter asked one of the crew if they ever felt like getting out and pushing (as they crept up Miller Hill rolling code 3) and the FF grinned and said "every time!"

Eden Prairie, MN has replaced, and standardized it's entire fleet in the past 5 years. While shooting shots for a dealers calendar this year, I grabbed this group shot. From L-R are L-21, E-41, E-21, E-11, and L-41.

Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Moundsview Fire Department is commonly refered to SBM fire, for obvious reasons.

When Luverne Fire Apparatus moved a few miles down the road, to Brandon, SD, several employees stayed behind. Midwest is operating from the old Luverne plant.

A bunch of departments in Minnesota have benefited from these surplus USAF refuelers. Some have maintained their 5000 gallon capacity, but like this one, most have been cut down.
