The outriggers on the front of the trailer don't allow for jacking the tractor. The forward screws would hit the tractor running boards. They don't pull out far at all. Newark, DE had a similar ladder from 1971-1987, and was set up identically. With hydraulic jacks, I think you could angle the tractor some, but still not much.
Pipeline 28 new ALF already OOS after its first job;20,3,49 ALFS where deliverd and are at the shop. Supposedly not being put into service after 28 truck taking a dump because of defective parts from what I hear. the 5 ALF tillers that where recently delivered have already been OOS many different times for various reasons. The companies that are getting the new ALFS over the years dont like them and would rather keep there old apparatus rather than the ALFS. The shop is full of ALFS OOS waiting for repairs I think there are more 200 series (SPARES) on the street than front line pieces. When is the PFD going to give up buying ALFS after all the problems. Hopefully 28s old Seagrave didnt go to far. Why not buy Seagraves again the FF seem to like them even if they are 12 years old or more they seem to be OOS less than the new ALFS>

The Seagrave engine's were 17 years old, and are still running strong!!!

Sounds like ALF bid too low to get the job and then threw them together. I read where ALF is in serious financial health. Shows that you sometimes get what you pay for.

-I also truly believe that no matter who's the manufacturer, all these new electronics, and bells & whistles contribute to many of the problems on todays new rigs !! Fire apparatus is better off being straight foward and simple, due to the beatings they take. You can NOT afford malfunctions and downtime for repairs. ALF's current situation does not help either. We have 10-ALF's, with 4 more on order. So far they have had their problems (nothing major-mostly electronics) but so have our Smeals, Seagraves and by far our Sutphens !

just wait until 2009 when the new EPA rules come out. think some rigs are out of service alot now, this is nothing.

As far as i know it isnt housed with the Haz-Mat, its housed with Pipeline 49 at 13th & Shunk.

haz mat station is full already and 49 is not that far from their station. Chem 1 is still parked up at the shop so it has not been assigned anywhere yet.

On the walk to E-20/L-23, she encountered Medic 1 on the street. I presume these are Horton bodies.

Was saddend to here that GIANT DELUGE 99 was sitting in a SCRAP YARD!!! The Fireman's Hall attendant I met today advised me of this fate today. The Hall has no space to keep the rig, they tried to keep it up at Engine 46 but again there was some Departmental Issues and the rig had to be moved... well the last place it went to was a Junk Yard.
I hope SOMEONE gets her and she does not get lost to a torch or other sad fate.
Jack can you advise on any further info or a LAST PHOTO of SS99 before she left PFD???

The Giant Deluge has not been scrapped. It is being stored outside at one of the city lots but it is still on the department's roster and the their is no plan to relinquish it. When Medic 49B was organized at Engine 46's house, there was no room to store the piece in the firehouse. It was then moved to a secure outside storage facility.

Thanks for the confirmation Jack. Old Giant Deluge did its share of work and SHOULD really be kept in the Hall... Even if they store it up that the FA until more room is found.
A lot of decisions made by the city make no sense. Why in the world would they have a truck in Fireman's Hall that isn't even an original Philly piece at all (the American La France pumper that I believe was from Scranton), while the beautiful Giant Deluge and the 1949 Autocar are footballed around from one firehouse to another in a state of limbo for decades. Not to mention the Maxim-Magirus ladder that was so unceremoniously given up recently.
And don't even get me started on the stupid plan to demolish the old Fire Headquarters on Race Street (along with the rest of the neighborhood that's already gone). If THAT were the fire museum instead of old Engine 8's station on 2nd Street, they could fit all the toys and more there.
