Now here are some old stations in Mecklenburg County that have closed due to annexations or have merged with other departments.

The Moores Chapel VFD merged with Wilkinson Blvd and became the West Mecklenburg VFD.

This is the old Moores Chapel VFD.

Do any of the vollies still use the "fire whistles"? BTW could someone please rescue Old Glory from the Moores Chapel station and give it a proper retirement?

Do volunteer depts. still have response areas within the City of Charlotte? Just curious how it works and if they work well together.

The City of Charlotte answers every call within its city limits. There are no volunteer response areas inside the city limits. The city will utilize the volunteer departments for mutual aid etc. The last plane crash took most of the Westside companies to the airport (3rd Alarm) and they used volunteers for move-ups etc. Most of the mutual aid calls are for brush trucks or tankers. The city only runs two Heavy Rescues and when both are tied up they will call for Newell's Heavy Rescue on the North East side of the city.

The Charlotte thread is gone so I'll post this "new" Charlotte station here. Charlotte opened a temporary fire station at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to cover a new runway that just opened. A new station is under construction. This is the second station for the airport.

Charlotte FD Station 41.
