Scott's posts prove why so many of us take our own time and gas money taking apparatus photos - without them, many of these rigs would have been lost and forgotten about forever.



That Sarah Zane rig is beautiful. He's another unique one that Sarah Zane ran before closing...





This engine is now privately owned by Rocky Keplinger, the local Smeal dealer. I am sure that Mike Sanders can quickly give us the spec's on this open-cab Ford C/Young, of which only 12 were produced. Almost all went to Maryland and Virginia, two of them made their way to New York.

This is an Atlas. Typically this style was a 250/1200.

Info as I have it:



1974 Seagrave Rear Admiral, canopy cab, 100 ft rear-mount steel ladder, 8V71 Detroit diesel, automatic, 6 KW Onan generator. It was ordered 1/74 for $80,301 and was paid for by the sale of the old property on Route 30. It was housed on 9/11/76. The compartments were refurbed by Wolfington Body of Eagle in early 1992. One of the hydraulic cylinders blew in 8/97 while it was up for sale, it was oos for a month waiting for the part. Once it went back into service, it failed ladder certification because the tips were bent. It became a insurance loss and the company was paid $27,000. The company then sold it to Delmarva Fire Equipment in 1/98 for $8,000 who was going to rehab it and sell it. Delmarva refurbed it then sold to the Tappahannock Essex VFD of Tappahannock, VA.

At one of the Apple Blossom parades, three open cab Ford C/Young's arrived - now that would have been a great group photo. As I recall, it was this Sara Zane, Navy-Vale Virginia, and Clinton, Maryland.

Mike, that was same parade where this photo was taken as a matter of fact. We do need get as many of these Young's together as we can for a group photo. I remember when you and I talked to the owners, who said that they'd like to have a group photo too, but it obviously became a logistical issue.

I take it that they don't keep it at station 1 as I didn't see it when I was there this past June. The background of the photo does look look like it was shot out back of back of station 1, though...

Actually, last I talked to a member down there, it was kept in the public works building, right behind FS1.
