Here's Ladder 8 returning to quarters via the rear ramp, with the new Crimson rear mount. Hope to get a much better shot in the future.

Sorry WAGONMAN, with all the rainy weather in this area, most departments keep their hose beds covered top and rear.

What happened to the real Q sirens. I noticed they dissapeared in the 90's. Gota have a real Q2b. Also I heard Washington State has a rule aginst Fire Poles. Is this true and will the new ten's have fire poles. All of the NEW Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department (KCFD) Fire House's have Fire Poles again. They reallly did not have any signifant data that shows fire poles are dangerours, so they have returned. Thank goodness tradtion is returning Nationwide. Sharp rigs love solid red.

Was surprised to see the new Fire Station 10 occupied as I was driving by on April 26th and what might be a new rig for AIR 9.

The reason that a lot of folks are getting away from mechanical Q's is power consumption. The elecrical systems of todays rigs cant handle the starter motor that runs a Q2B without a larger alternator. Alternartors believe it or not need HP to run them. With diesel fuel costing what it diooes they are buying smaller engines, get used to it.

That is a lame excuse. It is just the city trying to cut cost's.

Well if you look at it from a practical point of view...the people on the street, who are really the ones who benefit or lose from not being able to properly hear an emergency vehicle/differentiate between fire and police and medic, do they care whether the sound is mechanical or electronic? Probably not.

Sometimes I am hard-pressed to tell the difference myself. Of course, I prefer the real thing, but I also have an appreciation for the electronic-siren-only fire vehicles from years past (in Tampa)...as I could sometimes tell the difference between the ambulance siren and the fire truck siren (a very minimal variation between the two).

I believe that the EQ2s actually cost more than the real version. Seattle had real Qs on its rigs for many years, up until the late 80's. They began to experience problems with their mobile data computers. Every time the Q was cycled, the computers would restart because their power supply would basically go away. It might have been poorly designed wiring, but the end result was that all of the Qs were taken off the rigs. Problem solved -- the computers then worked fine. So in this case, it's not just a lame excuse.
