JA - On the Austin unit what is the small door above the rear wheels? Just looks pretty small in the photo. Thanks, Neal Craig

Neal, couple of oxygen "D" cylinders if I remember correctly....but I'll verify on the next ones in a week or two.

John,
Does Scott & White or any other 911 EMS provider in the Central Texas area have new Wheeled Coaches on the way or ordered? Also, were the two CitiMedics that just went into sevice at S&W previously demos? Thanks! -Seth Seth Granville

Seth,
I don't work Central Tx South of Hays County (San Marcos) so I'll have to check the "board" Monday and let you know...I know Frio Canyon EMS in Leaky, TX, and Bulverde-Spring Branch near San Antonio both have Chevy C4500s on order. As far as Scott & White goes, I think those were what we call new "stock units" already built at the plant. I don't think they were demos. Scott & White EMS is actually operated by Community EMS up in Michigan somewhere I think and they usually buy units for multiple locations when they buy, but again, not in my territory so I'm not sure. JA and Neal, the little compartment above the passenger side wheel holds three d cylinders as well as extra garbage bags bio bags etc. The compartment on the driver's side hold our wheel chocks, road triangles, and extra backboard and stretcher straps. I have comparmtnet shots but am having problems getting them from my digital camera let me see what I can do in the next weeks or so and I will try to get them up
Thanks for the answers.
Hey Guys,
I have been riding out with S&W for the past two weeks. The two trucks that they just recieved were indeed stock units already built. They were to replace two from the fleet that had been taken out of service, one was wrecked by contact with a guardrail at 75, and the other blew the engine. The new trucks are NICE. I can say i love the LED dome lights inside, you can leave them on for hours and they are still cool to the touch, which helps the A/C out a bunch. The trucks were made at the factory with only Left side cot mounts, and they are trying to get it worked out to get the cots moved to the middle mounts when they can get the trucks to the shop. Also, S&W EMS is not run by Community, they are owned in partnership by S&W Hospital and PHI, who is the lead shareholder now. Hope this helps, and I will try to get some pics when I am down there again.

Everything you said was 100% spot on, except: Scott & White EMS, Inc is 80% owned by Scott and White, with a 20% share held by Parastar Consulting (also operates Community EMS in Michigan), who came in a little over two years ago to "overhaul" the agency so that they turned a profit for the hospital (or more self sustaining at least). They also handle the billing and financial aspects of the agency. The employees are Scott and White, except for some managment positions, who are ParaStar employees. Scott & White Pre-Hospital Services (the former name) used to operate 2 helicopters, Stat Air 1 and Stat Air 2, which were given to PHI (a huge helicopter operations company). PHI has no financial stake in S&W EMS. Seth Granville

A few days ago, I posted a "Road Shot" of one of the new EMS supervisor vehicles at SAFD. Today, I was able to go by the shops and Station 16 (where the EMS Shift Capt is quartered) and got some better shots. The new units are either 2008 Ford F350 crew cab pick ups with a shell cover OR 2008 Dodge 3500 crew cabs with a covered utility type bed. SAFD-EMS is in the process of transitioning from lime yellow stripes to red stripes (new fire chief said that "taxi cab yellow" stripe had to GO). Rumor is that the new batch of 16 ambulances coming will either be white over red or have the red stripes in place of the lime yellow...

For Seth and the other Austin guys....3 more new 2009 International Wheeled Coach Custom Series MAVs delivered to Austin/Travis Co EMS yesterday (that makes 7, the final 2 on this contract are probably another month out). I wasn't able to get any compartment shots as requested since the units had already been taken to the International dealer for acceptance when I got there to do the delivery paperwork and I was pressed for time for another meeting.

Thank you for the clarification Tac.
and for an update on the new Scott and White trucks, they can now be found sitting in the maintenance yard until they are able to find out where the new plates for them are. Talk about efficiency, my last rideout we were in one of the old type II vans. At least the A/C was good. Scott
