Thanks for the info about Weston. I am impressed with the large rescues that Florida departments operate. How many firefighter/paramedics are usually assigned to the units, say in Miami-Dade or Broward?

Most of the time they are staffed with 3 medics (at least Palm Beach County and Miami-Dade).

Or 2 medics and an EMT.
Evening guys!! This past weekend, Fort Lauderdale took delivery of their new heavy rescue rig "Squad-47". Luckily today was a better day then we've had weather related, I decided to head out to Fort Lauderdale Station-53 hoping to find the new heavy rescue parked outside, unfortunately it wasn't. However sitting perfectly posed was Ladder-13, so I took advantage!!
Below is Fort Lauderdale Ladder-13 a 2009 Pierce Velocity 1500/300/105'.
Heads up Alex......The New Ft. Lauderdale Spartan/Hackney Tandem axle heavy rescue is in.....she's a beauty. At the City Shops right now.

Thanks, Tom!! I'm going send an email to the maintenance captain and see what I can have arranged.
I received an email this morning that Fort Lauderdale Squad-47 was headed to EVS in Coconut Creek for equipment mounting. I jumped on the Turnpike and got there just as the rig pulled in.
I thought this was pretty cool...

Nice rig...
How is staffed? Dedicated staffing or cross-staffed by another company?
Thanks in advance.

Larry,
from what I've been told, Squad-47 will have a dedicated lieutanent and driver engineer, the rest of the staffing will rendezvous from other companies.

As it currently stands, the Squad will only have a driver, with Engine 47 and Rescue 47 being staffed by TRT members, to make a total of 6 TRT members on duty. Any additional staffing above minimum will be used to allocate additional personnel to have at least 2 on the squad. Basically, they are eliminating Support 88 from service, and replacing it with this, so no additional staff are being hired, etc...just reallocated.
Also, as part of implementing the squad into service and TRT to station 47, station 49 now runs the Marine Team, still handling all dive and fireboat calls. However, E49 R49 L13 no longer will handle rope, extrication, etc type calls as part of the TRT team, with those duties being transferred to 47.

FTLAUD,
Thankyou for clearing that up, quick question... Which aerial device will run with the TRT members and/or TRT type incidents?

Alex,
No problem. I've lived out of the area for some time, so I'm not entirely sure of everything going on as part of the change. However, my guess would be that the closest ladder company would respond with TRT for high angle incidents, to assist since there is no longer an aerial as part of the team, unlike before where they needed L13 to be on scene to do a TRT operation for equipment, now any unit in the city would work. However, that I do not know for sure...common sense would dictate to send the new tower to work off of whenever possible as it would be easier and safer, but as a wise friend once said, "Good sense is to rare to be called common."
