That's not necessary true anymore. Job #20388 is a old style Arrow Glider Kit, 105' HDL Quint for Redstone Arsenal, AL done the same way as the Aberdeen Proving Ground unit.



We have delivered units that are glider kit builds that carry both a "F" number from the shop in Wega and a regular Pierce job number and some units that carry just a regular production number.

I just found the cheat sheet from fire expo on this truck.Pierce "MEGA" PUC with a 220.75" wheelbase,TAK-4,Cummins ISM 500hp engine,Allison EVS 4000, 1500gpm 750gal 40foam with Husky foam system,full height and depth compartments on both sides,customized ladder rack,20 kw PTO generator,27" front bumper with booster reel and all this plus more at 53,800lbs.

The short answer is Yes......



A "Glider Kit" rebuild uses the engine, transmission, and sometimes the rear axle from a old rig. Those items can be re-built and installed into a old style ( Non-Multiplexed ) Arrow or Dash chassis. If the glider kit is going to be a new pumper / aerial / rescue, then the rig could be built on a regular production line in Appleton. This type of build would be issued a regular Pierce job number.



A "new" old style cab can be built and installed on a existing chassis to replace a damaged cab or replace a open canopy cab with a 4-door style. Work of this type would be done at one of the Service Centers. The replacement cab job would carry a Service Center "F" serial number.



Now a "Glider Kit" chassis of a "Non-Typical" Pierce Product, like a Baker / FWD Scope would be done in Wega. and could have both a Standard Job Number and or a "F" number.



I have one customer that is considering purchasing a older pumper just for the DDA 8V92 / HT740 engine transmission combination to put into a glider kit rebuild.... This way they would have a pumper that matches their present rig with components their are familiar with.



Pierce mantains the cab jigs and tooling for most, if not all of the past series of cabs... I have photos somewhere of the jigs lined-up out back of the IPP facility in Appleton. I know that several old style "phase 1" Lance cabs have been built in the past for accident replacements.

Yes it does and thank you very much Tim!!! I know when I spoke with Don from Wega a few years ago he said the service center could just about do anything even if the main plant could not do it any more.I wasn't sure if things had changed or not over the years.

Gainesville,Va. recently took delivery of these 2 Pierce Velocity PUC's 1500/750/40 Husky 12 Hercules CAFS. Unit 504 job# 20412-01,unit 524 job#20412-02. I'm not sure if there will be any art work put on these as they seem pretty plain to me.
