How many 1970s Seagrave 100'RM ladders did Atlanta run? I recently acquired several pictures of older Atlanta rigs and I'm trying to identify an older Seagrave ladder that looks to be a reserve but there are no markings on it besides the City of Atlanta.

Just one. It was first assigned to L-16, then to L-38 and then into reserve for a while. There are pics of it on this thread.

Ok, thanks for the information. I wasn't sure this Seagrave was part of a multi-piece order or just a single purchase. I'll post what I have when I can find a scanner as I don't currently have one.

I almost fell out of the chair when I found this shot on 1949ALF's web page. (Used with permission) This is a shot by Dick Adelman of Atlanta's Ladder #23. It was a 1956 ALF 700 Series TDA. I'll post job number and delivery date later. I'm trying to get some help in identifying the driver and tillerman. This shot was taken on the alley known as Garreaux Street, across from Station #23. My guess is that they could not get a shot of this rig sitting in front of the station because the ramp is so short. So, they pulled it across the street for the shot.

Whoa! That is an awesome shot of Ladder 23. That is only the 2nd picture i have ever seen of it. How many ALF 700 series TDA's did Atlanta have? I am guessing only this one. Good find Shoe!
I've spoken to three people today that actually remember this rig. They confirmed that the "camper top" was an add on. I'm now on the look-out for a shot before the roof. I understand that it was originally Ladder #8 on Carnegie Street. At some point, the ladder company was moved from #23 to #8's "new" station on Marietta Blvd. Truck #8 was taken out of service in the early 90's.

I'm being told that it also served as Ladder #11. If you have access to a 1983 yearbook, it can be seen on page #59 next to the drill tower at #7. I also learned that it's last run as Ladder #23 was to 130 26th Street. The brakes failed en-route and it was taken out of service. After it was repaired, it was a reserve for a few years. I want to verify it, but I am told that the drivers are Manuel Trujillo (now Batt. Chief in Sandy Springs) and Donnell Johnson (now Capt. at airport). |
